Many people took clothing and family photos. The Germans had taken all of their valuable items. Some people had buried them but others had them taken away. The journey to the camp was horrible. People were loaded up animals and given little to nothing to eat and drink. Many people got very sick on the way to the camp. Once there families got split up. Men and boys went to one side and women and girls or very young children went to another side. Many people were so upset being split up and they were heartbroken. People held on strongly to their faith and to what they had left from their homes. Elie told us about how they were forced to strip down to nothing and told to go shower. They got to keep their belts and shoes as long as their shoes weren’t new. They got a set of clothes thrown at them to wear and sent off to their jobs. Elie luckily got an easy job in an electric depot. He sorted things and his father worked alongside of him. They prayed to their God and tried to keep their faith even though it started to become shaky. The men worked everyday and got very little to eat and sleep. They noticed roll call was taking longer than normal but then a man was brought up in front of them of them and hung. The German’s wanted to strike fear in the Jews. They made everyone walk right in front of the hung man and look him in the face. Many of the men almost couldn’t do it. The beatings had continued and the men were losing faith in everything. A while later they had another hanging. This time it was two grown men and a young boy. The was called the Sad Eyed Angel. He was loved by everyone. They men had died instantly but the young boy was light that it had taken thirty minutes to forty five minutes. They made everyone look at the young boy as he struggled to stay alive. A guy in the crowd had yelled hout asking where God was and to have mercy on all of them. Elie had basically lost all faith in that moment and said that God had died when the little boy had died. The Jews had lost faith in anything good happening to them anytime soon. They took the beatings and every other cruel and inhuman thing happening to them and work their hearts out. Elie’s foot had become swelled and he was unable to work or even walk on it. He went to the doctor and ended up having surgery on it. The front had become closer to where his camp was so they would either move with the camp and live or stay in the little hospital that they had and possibly be rescued or killed. Elie and his father left. The men were forced
The prisoners are starved, shaved, beaten, and treated as “filthy dogs,” all while working forcedly throughout the day. Eliezer and Shlomo had to move heavy stones to wagons without having strength left. Family members were separated just because they didn’t fit the age range. Many just died because they could not last anymore, like Wiesel’s father. There was this thing called selection.
Couple days later Elie's’ father was taken to be talked to. When he came back they found out they were going to be shoved in cattle cars that were transported to concentration camps and that is where it all began. While everyone was on the cattle car going to their next destination, there was barely any water or food. It was silent but then, Mrs. Schachter started

To begin with, physical death. Elie uses physical death very often in the story, because it easily evokes emotion from the user. A strong quote that came later in the book is “He collapsed. But his fist was still clutching a small crust. He wanted to raise it to his mouth.
The book reveals thoughts and opinions that Elie has when placed into the concentration camps. Fear is shown in the beginning, but recedes toward the end. While their dads were telling them not to. During that Elie wanted to help his father to march and not be mocked at or beaten up. The other inmates started to laugh and Elie distinctly remembered “My father had never served in the military and could not march in step.
