In history, events of genocide have occurred and humankind has fought to stop them. Such horrific events have occurred across the world; possibly the most horrific event of them all was the Holocaust. Hitler led a dictatorship throughout the entire country of Germany and during this time he had devised a strategy to take over Europe. While ruling his Nazi state and having a world war, Hitler had been running concentration camps secretly throughout his controlled territories. In the camps he had organized a method to systematically eliminate all races he viewed as inferior. When the concentration camps were found, stories began to flood from them and the tales of the survivors were used to help understand the events that had occurred. Elie Wiesel was just 15-years-old when he was sent to Auschwitz, facing a daily struggle to survive and preserve his identity. Wiesel’s account of his experiences as a 15-year-old boy during the Holocaust were written in his memoir entitled Night. The memoir Night is the story about a Elie, who lived in a Jewish village and was then sent to the concentration camps. The concentration camps had changed his emotional outlook on life forever. The book shows his mental change in how he had first desired to care about every person he met and tried to help everyone he could. Elie questioned his faith with his God and started to even wonder if there was one watching over him and his people, he struggled with this even before the camps.
