Black History Month Essay

Black history month is a yearly commemoration dedicated to the accomplishments made by African Americans. As an African American female, I am persistently faced with discrimination, stereotyping and sexism. I am aware that the racism and discrimination we face today is not nearly as atrocious as what my ancestors experienced, but it is still exceedingly difficult being black in America. I give thanks to the great deal of African Americans before my time who fought for our freedom. There are countless blacks who inspire and motivate me everyday.

Black History Month Carter Woodson was tireless in his lobbying to establish Negro History Week as a program to encourage the study of African-American history. He dedicated his career to the subject and wrote many books on the topic. Black history month focuses its attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all black people in ways that they weren’t honored in prior generations.

She said that it was "really fun," and that she looked forward to it every spring semester.   katie Osinde said "It was one of the best parts of my college experience because it gave me plenty of opportunities to meet new people and make friends that I still regularly keep in contact with.   I really can 't stress how important that time was for me as not only as a student, but also as a person." In regards to the importance of Black History Month, Junior Osinde said "It 's a really cool thing that we as a nation are able to celebrate together.   Everyone can learn something from it and everyone can grow closer from it too.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr is known for his strategy of nonviolent civil disobedience, which he used to advance the civil rights of black Americans who had been treated as second-class citizens for more than a century. King was an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He was a man that persuaded people worldwide to follow him during the Civil Rights Movement. King was a very passionate, caring man. A great leader that pushed and motivated blacks to achieve equal rights for all.

Martin Luther King, Jr.: Changing the World Ever wonder how hard the African Americans had it, or what their punishment was if they did something wrong? Well Martin Luther King, Jr. was one and he helped get the freedom they deserved and helped change the world. Originally named Michael, Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929.

In some ways, it can help put an end to racism, it shows the contributions African Americans have made throughout America’s history. These are beneficial things to students and can make schools a place where all children can feel valued, appreciated and safe. It is hard for students to learn in a place where they feel unvalued, unappreciated, and unsafe, their focus is outside of schools, but teaching black history may have a positive impact on students not just during black history month, but all year

In 1926 released a press conference announcing Negro History Week would be in February. It has been said that Woodson wanted Negro History Week to be in February because it was the birthdays of very big historical faces Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas. Negro History Week began to expand throughout the 1920s and 1930s in public and county schools. Woodson and the association started to demand materials for teachers to teach about Negro history. Well before Woodson’s death in 1940 he began to emphasize the need for Negro History Week to be more than just a week.

Black History Month is a yearly celebration of achievements by African-Americans .Today's society shouldn't only celebrate the African-American heroes in the month of February , but should also be year round. The month of February gives people the chance to show black athletes as well as leaders. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most recognized African-American Leaders , his inspiring message can’t be forgotten about even his motivational speech lives on. With the strong heart and mind as well as pluck in African-Americans substructure of slavery, fighting for civil rights, the right to vote. This has created a solid foundation to build ongoing legacy in the future.

Pick up a history book, flip through its pages, and find a section(s) dedicated to African Americans. There will be a supercut of slavery and a few inventors, enough to count on one’s hand. Ultimately, only the historical characters that are considered salient are provided, which are white educators, Presidents, legislators, advocates, inventors, etc. This issue engenders the remaining reason to advocate Black History Month. “Carter G. Woodson was the sole individual responsible for creating Negro History Week in Washington, D.C., in February 1926” (Edmondson).

Hearts of the oppressed will always cry out in desperation; waiting for anyone to swoop in and liberate them from their cruel reality. Few are capable of mustering up the gumption to throw their neck on the line in defense of the defenseless. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one such man. Trading in his comfortable life for one of danger and ridicule, King was catapulted to the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement following the profound leadership he demonstrated during the Montgomery Bus Boycott. As a well-educated, African American pastor, he provided a unique perspective on the racial issues at hand.

Morgan Freeman doesn’t like that his race has its own month, and that’s understandable. However, Black History Month is a great way to help show that not all people are racist. Black History Month helps recompense for how racist some people can be. Times and events like this are an effective and necessary way to prevent racism. We may never get rid of racism, but if we continue to fight it, it will lessen.

Martin Luther King, born on January 15, 1929. Martin Luther King, Jr. is one of the most influential civil rights activists of our time. He led many non-violent protests demanding that segregation be outlawed. He constantly proclaimed the use of oppression is the biggest contradiction to everything America is supposed to stand for.

Martin Luther King Jr. helped us realize that segregation and poverty are wrong. He also helped us realize that we should treat people the same. No matter race, color, or gender. He has impacted our everyday lives with the Civil Rights Act and his “I Have a Dream…” speech. He is an important man with an important history.

Fred Shuttlesworth The Civil Rights Movement is one of the most important time periods in the history of the United States. One man that played a major role in the Civil Rights Movements was Fred Shuttlesworth who was a Baptist Minister and worked closely with Dr.Martin Luther King Jr., Co-founding the SLCL. Fred also organized direct action protests in Birmingham and established the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights in 1956. Fred didn’t think about himself because he endured great suffering and spent his whole life serving for other people.

The people from Africa were generally part of early American history; however, Africans had experience slavery under better conditions compared to the conditions imposed by other civilized society. From the Egyptian Empire to the Empire of Songhai, slavery was practice for the betterment of their society, however, foreigners invaded these regions and took their slave, their ports and impose these people to a life of servitude in the Caribbean islands and in the English’s colonies. Furthermore, the African American slaves were an active agent of society in the earliest period of American history; they have brought new religious practices to their community; for instance, they constructed networks of communities; they had fought in war alongside
