Betrayal In This Is Now, By S. E. Hinton

I think what Hinton meant by the term “outsider” is because the gang weren’t like most greasers and they were definitely not socs so they were outside the normal social groups. I think this because Ponyboy and the gang aren’t searching for fights and they are respectful of the rules (most of the time) and they are not high class and rude. So I believe outsider means not in the regular social classes and they are there own thing and they wouldn’t change for anyone. I think Hinton was referencing Ponyboy and the gang as well as Randy and Cherry.

Introduction The Outsiders is a novel written by S.E Hinton in the first person point of view: that of Ponyboy. The novel follows the conflict between the Socs and the Greasers, two different groups of boys from different classes of society. Ponyboy struggles to fit in throughout the book, juggling right from wrong. While in the church hiding, Ponyboy recites from memory the poem, ‘Nothing Gold Can Stay’.

Characters respect and worship the Party, even when they are betrayed. These two emotions split among the people in 1984, a majority of those who are truly loyal will worship Big Brother and Orwell presents the fact that there are those who will through themselves to their knees with Big Brother becoming their savior. As an example, “With a tremulous murmur that sounded like “My Savior!” she extended her arms toward the screen. Then she buried her face in her hands.

In The First Betrayal Josan, a man who works in a lighthouse finds himself in the midst of a violent storm. Consequently the disheartening storm threatens to destroy the light in the tower, causing the ships to crash into the rocks. In the passage- The First Betrayal, Patricia Bray’s use of harsh diction and vivid imagery creates a mood of suspense. For instance, the author’s use of word choice illustrates a tone of fear.

Acts of betrayal have very large impacts on the person committing them and the people around them. Some might try to fix their mistakes they made in the past, like in Khaled Hosseini’s, The Kite Runner, others however, might just dig themselves into a deeper hole until the betrayal consumes them, like in William Shakespeare's, Macbeth. Both main characters betrayed people that they loved and cared about. In The Kite Runner, Amir betrays his friend Hassan but then he tries to fix his lack of action from when he was a child, and in Macbeth, Macbeth betrays many people including his king his best friend but doesn’t try to fix his mistakes.

The ability to trust others is a good quality to have, but too much trust can lead to betrayal which then can cause a change in someone. The dystopian novel Unwind by Neal Shusterman is about kids ages 13-18 trying to survive in a disloyal world from getting killed and stripped for body parts. In the novel The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey, there is an alien invasion where all the aliens manipulate all the human’s fears and weaknesses to eventually kill them off. Both authors of the stories use character archetypes and symbolism to indicate the theme that people who have been betrayed in the past, tend to change as a person whether the change is good or bad.

The Culprit: Philip Malloy On March 28, a student by the name of Philip Malloy is disrespectfully singing the “Star- Spangled Banner.” The teacher the student had at this time, Miss Margaret Narwin, did her job and asked Malloy to stop. When this incident occurred the following day Malloy is asked to see the assistant principal, Dr. Joseph Palleni, Dr. Palleni gave Malloy a warning. The same incident happened the next day, again, Philip Malloy is sent to Dr. Palleni’s office.

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is a well known classic that depicts the life of migrant workers''' during the great depression. As this book may seem uninteresting, it actually has been shown immense respect in the literature world. It has stood the test of time and is a primary book being taught in schools today. The theme played a big role in making this happen. Without realization kids are able to relate to the reason that it depicts loneliness and betrayal.

Betrayal is one of the recurring themes that is portrayed throughout the novel. Betrayal is common in Oceanian society.

It has a huge affect on peoples feelings and Morales. This puts you in a bad position. You have to make a decision to how you will deal with this problem. I recall when I got betrayed by my close friend. We were eating lunch and my friend leaves me so sit with somebody else.

When it seems that someone is betraying the other, that very person might believe that they are in fact being loyal. In many of the situations that happened in the book, when someone was betrayed, there was often an opposite perspective which thought they were in fact being loyal to that person. When Najwa was betrayed by her family and forced to marry a complete stranger, her family believed that they were being loyal to her virtue and the culture’s traditions where she could have a safe, prosperous life with a man who could support her. When Suleiman betrayed his family thus betraying the dissidents, he felt he was being loyal to the family’s views unaware he was giving them up over to the government. The betrayal of people are sometimes given with the gift of loyalty.

The patterns of trust and subsequent betrayal found in the Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, serve to teach lessons about what it was like for African Americans in post-slavery America, when the book is set. The Invisible Man trusts easily and naively. Yet, despite working hard, he is betrayed by the institutions and people he looks up to as role models as they exploit his expectations for their own agenda. Overall, there are four strong examples of those taking advantage and hurting the Invisible Man. With each incident, he learns a lesson about how blatantly the black population is disregarded, along with being given an object that represents the underlying racism found in a society.

“Betrayal is the breaking or violation of a presumptive contract, trust, or confidence that produces moral and psychological conflict within a relationship amongst individuals. Both “The Golden Compass” and “Diamond as Big as the Ritz” deal with the theme of betrayal in contrasting ways. On one hand Lyra tries the whole book to save Roger and in the end is his downfall, but Percy betrays John from the start and ends up dead instead. In the the novel “The Golden Compass” by Philip Pullman and the short story “Diamond as Big as the Ritz” by F. Scott Fitzgerald both deceptions had to result in a death because if everyone was to live no one would have been truly betrayed. (STRONGER)

Julius Caesar Essay Betrayal can be defined as breaking the bond of trust in any type of relationship, and deceiving others. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, betrayal can be seen throughout the play, done to and by many of the characters. Many of the reasons why betrayal is shown in the play are all for a similar reasons- Ambition / greed. The theme of Julius Caesar is that people betray others because of ambition and greed.
