These examples are different in both the book and the movie and shows that Beowulf in the book has a different personality than in the movie.

And we will be focusing on the characters, the setting, the supernatural, and the the themes. The main characters from beowulf and the one from 13th warrior are really from two different point of view. The 13th Warrior has Ahmed Ibn Fahdlan, the thirteenth chosen warrior to fight with Buliwyf (Beowulf) in a big battle against unhuman like creatures. However In the epic poem, there is Beowulf as the main character. The way the battle looks like in the movie shows the different perspectives and the sense of confusion the warriors had when they were accompanying Beowulf throughout his journey to fight and defeat Grendel and the dragon.

One final example of the discrepancies between the two plots was when in the book, Beowulf goes against the mystical fire-breathing dragon who was just another beast that Beowulf had to kill.

In the epic poem it says, "Grendel's one thought was to run from Beowulf, flee back to his marsh and hide there" (Beowulf 314-315). This quote explains that the people at Meadhall believed that Grendel was startled by the way the people responded back on his attack. This makes the readers think that Grendel was not confident enough to take the people at Meadhall down because of his fearful view. Beowulf risked his life multiple times by battling Grendel and Grendel’s mother to save the people of Denmark. He also embarks on a battle with a dragon as an old man ascending on the Geats Throne. Each battle Beowulf fought has all been for the safety of his people. Although the Knight did not battle as a deed for his people, he also is viewed as a humble person his battles were for a purpose greater than himself. The knight never talks about his brave and valorous deeds.

One of these differences happens to be in the poem; Grendel kills the Dane who wronged him and proceeds to get away from Beowulf, but as Grendel is running away Beowulf catches his arm. Although Beowulf catches his arm in the poem that is not what happens in the film. In the film, Grendel runs and Beowulf gets a rope around his wrist and as Grendel jumps out of the building he gets caught on the rope, then Grendel proceeds to cut his own arm off in order to get away from Beowulf and the other Danes. In the movie Beowulf has no part in cutting off Grendel's arm.

Throughout the story of Beowulf and the movie Thor, there are many similarities; from the enemies they meet, the characteristics of the two warriors, and the things they have conquered. Both Thor and Beowulf have lots of pride. Thor is known as someone powerful and brave in Asgard, he has many enemies. Beowulf is known as a courageous warrior who can conquer any enemy, and he also has different enemies that he must defeat throughout the story. Both of the brave warriors come to figure out what their destiny must be, they are destined for greatness but they must go through great storms to achieve it.

   The first similarity between Beowulf and King Arthur are that they are both very brave. Beowulf traveled all the way to Denmark after hearing the plight their people were going through. He didn’t even know anything other than what he was told. As if that wasn’t brave Beowulf went on to never back down from any monster whether it be Grendel, Grendel's mother, or the dragon he didn’t ever run from a fight. While King Arthur didn’t do go around killing all these monsters he was brave in other aspects.
