A Police officer job is a difficult task to handle and is not the best career choice for everyone. Police officer are constantly working under stress and deal with people who don't want to be held accountable for their actions which can be quite frustrating. Officers do put their lives on the line every day, and it can sometimes be hard to deal with the public stereotyping police officers. The law enforcement makes critical decisions on daily basis. As an officer you have the power to make certain decision when it comes to an arrest or charge an individual with a crime or violation. Discretion is the key to become a successful fair Police officer. Discretion can give officers the opportunity to have flexibility to perform their duties. According
The way the person is raised during his childhood and the culture they are brought up in. In some situations, officers may end up violating constitutional rights of suspects dealing with search and seizures. This can create a problem because it can create a negative impact that tends to upset the community. Police officers are trusted in their ability to use their discretion to react appropriately to various situations. Discretion levels have changed throughout time and policies have been revised and implemented to set some controls on officers’ discretion power vs. policies.
An officer is working for the public helping to protect and to help keep everyone safe from danger. The public does not work as an officer because they are not trained or are aware of how the job works. When misusing your power this takes an effect on the public and how they will function around the police. You want the public to feel welcome and that they feel safe knowing that there is an officer around. Police that are leaving horrible impressions on the public is what ruins the relationship between the people and officers.
Discretion is the power of officials to choose among multiple possible courses of action; whether or not to give someone a speeding ticket, or give them a warning. Discretion is vital to the police. It is impossible for the police to arrest ever individual who commits a crime; instead, the police rely on their ability to use discretion: handing out tickets, warnings, etc. Discretion is important, but there are situations in which the administration has to limit the officers use of discretion. East Valley’s police department will implement policies that will require officers to make an arrest in certain situations.
Being in Law Enforcement is a 24/7/365 lifestyle that not only affects the officer by never being able to put down his guard (except maybe for when they are at home), but their family as well. It affects everything from missed holidays, anniversaries to birthday celebrations and can even affect the simplest thing as holding hands with your significant other in public (that gun hand has to stay empty at all times). An officer continuously checks his surroundings for danger, which affects where you can sit in a restaurant, where you park your car, how you dress, and where you shop. What most people do not understand is “the job” affects every single second of a police officer’s and their family’s life. They have to plan everything around
Discretion is necessary because it helps officer with their own opinions and being fair/unfair to certain situations. For example there are two cars and the street light is about to change. One car decided to run the yellow light he or she had enough time to get across but for the other car he or she did not have enough time to get across but still decided to run that red light guess who got the ticket the person who went through the yellow light. Another example is when a person is driving over the speeding limit and having the phone to his or her ear. The officer can pull the driver over and give the driver two tickets one for speeding and one for having the phone to the ear.
Also all the officers are constantly trained to make sure they know the efficient techniques of preventing criminal activity. The law enforcement agents are regularly checked to ensure that they serve the government loyally and with respect. Secondly, every person working in a law enforcement agency knows their responsibilities. Any police department
These jobs aren't for everyone, but the question I need to answer is are they for me? Becoming a sheriff or state trooper are two career choices I am considering; however, being a state trooper is a better fit for me because of the better benefits and different atmosphere. The protection of the good citizens all around the United States is a priority to some men and
Even when no one is watching Police officers must be exemplary citizens. In the line of duty, police will be faced with several decisions requiring them to use their discretion. For example, a police officer is responding to a call of a house with the front door wide open. As he and his partner walk around to unsure everything is okay, he notices money sitting on the counter. With integrity, this police officer decides to leave the money as found and notify the home owner.
Due to the nature of their job, police officers are first responders to crises. They see things that normal people are not meant to see. People depend on officers to help them through some of the worst moments of their lives. Officers do not need a degree in counseling or a license to offer support to people going through a crisis or a traumatic incident. The most important tips for police officers is to 1) stop and ask yourself "how would I feel if this were happening to me?", 2) Communicate empathy, and 3) ask the person "what are you going to do if we cannot help you?".
Law enforcement is an honorable job to have and to uphold, especially a State Trooper. You will have a reputation to uphold. In this field it will come to know that it is very unpredictable. Every morning when you go into the field, there is always a chance you won't come home.
Being a law enforcement officer can be very difficult in some cases. There will be issues, problems, and situations that occur. In order to go about with these problems there has to be a balance. Seeing and doing things fair in a lawful way is a great way to keep balance. I am sure law enforcement know the rights to citizens have.
Great job! I enjoyed reading your post; it was well thought out and articulated. Furthermore, I believe your post offer keen insights into police discretion and police brutality, as shown in Michelle Jordan’s case; and to an extent, I agree with most of what you stated regarding the circumstances of the use of force on Jordan. To begin with, it is important to note that the penalty for texting and driving usually consists of just monetary fines—in a few states, criminal misdemeanor charges. Jordan’s crime was only a minor violation and therefore did not warrant such excessive force from the officer.
A police woman is the same that a police man, because they have the same oportunitties, talent, etc. but a police woman sometimes wanna help people and for that choose a job, how this, a work in that be strong is important. in my opinion
Police is not 100% perfect in the world. There are flaws and errors which are committed by the member of each police agency. No police agency pure to its mission. For example a lot of police forces use the word “Integrity, Respect and Safety” these are some of the words which are used by police forces across the country. To be honest not every single member follows this idea.
When it comes to low-crime, stable neighborhoods, and stable apartments, they usually experience little to no crime at all. Whether a neighborhood is high or low -income the same approach is taken and is generally employed by a police agency. Residents like to know that police are patrolling the area. Neighborhood watch programs would be helpful, but there is not any proof that that actually help or prevent crimes in the neighborhoods (San Miguel, 2005). Police responsiveness to stable complexes, drive-by visibility is usually almost not viable because some communities are gated areas and parking lots are almost impossible sometimes to just drive through.
