The demand for nurses has been higher than ever due to the shortage of nurses. Nursing is the career I am looking into pursuing, more specifically a travel nurse. I am considering this career because I want to accomplish helping others and saving lives. I have some background knowledge of what travel nurses do and where they can go; I know being a travel nurse is a well-paying job and they are helping to mend the nursing shortage. My personal connection to this career is my cousin’s girlfriend, Jordan. Jordan is currently an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse working to become a nurse anesthesiologist. She explained to me how difficult it can be to adjust at the start and the length of your shifts. To find my skills and career matches I used …show more content…
It is much more than just traveling to a new city. There are many factors that go into becoming a travel nurse. You need to find employment through staffing agencies to obtain a contract. The agencies usually provide the nurse with medical and dental services and help with finding accommodation, but the nurse is allowed to pay for these things themself. “Hospitals and healthcare facilities work with travel nurse staffing agencies to hire travel nurses to fill their staffing needs. To obtain a travel nurse contract, you’ll need to work with an agency. There are 340 travel nurse staffing agencies. in the U.S'' (Beaker What is a Travel Nurse?). The nurse has the choice to decide between a long-term or short-term contract. Once your contract is made, you can not end it early unless the hospital or facility does not need your help anymore. If you want to “build your resume” you should take a contract with a top-rated hospital. For example, John Hopkins Hospital or Mayo Clinic would be high-rated hospitals to work at that will help you get hired at a hospital you want to work at. Travel nurses are not allowed to work in any state they want unless they have a license in that state. So, to be able to travel to different states, you need a license in the states where you are accepting the contract. It would be too hard to get a license for every state, so one solution to this is to get the eNLC (Enhanced Nursing Licensure). This license is one license that works for 39 states, so that work can be started immediately in any state you want to be hired in. Personally, I would be interested in obtaining this license so that I can travel to more states and won't be limited to one or
You will be legally entitled to work as CNA. CNA can work in the hospital and also they can work individually by visiting patients to their homes. The training duration for a nursing assistant varies from state to state. There are many schools and colleges which are providing the nursing assistant training. The training is based on some basic nursing skills, patient care, laboratory procedures and maintaining the patient's record.
I chose to interview someone that I have looked up to and has been an inspiring role model for deciding to pursue a career in nursing. I have known Phyllis Czarnecki, for six years now, however, I was never familiar with the details of her career as a registered nurse. This interview gave me more respect for Mrs. Czarnecki by giving me a better understanding of the path she has taken to be where she is now. I have always known the general idea of a nurse's responsibilities, however, this interview allowed me to learn the personal opinions and a specific job of a registered nurse. Phyllis realized, as a teenager, she wanted to become a nurse when her mom was hospitalized and undergoing surgery.
To be a Registered Nurse one will need to go through about three to four years of school. The certificates range from Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), to Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). The most popular option is the ADN program because it’s more hands on out in the medical field. To become a Registered Nurse one can go to any community college or university.
You can attend a CNA school, community college certificate program, or get training through a local medical facility. The important thing to look for is a school that meets state requirements so you will be eligible to take the state licensing examination. For instance, a situation you want to think twice about is a local nursing home that offers its own nursing assistant training so you can work in their facility. This program might limit your job duties and restrict you to working in just the one facility since your training won 't be recognized elsewhere. If you go through private training at a nursing home or other healthcare facility, be sure it qualifies you for the state exam, so you 'll be free to work anywhere in the state once you have
A bachelor’s degree is required for admittance and all programs include clinical training classes at university or community hospitals before graduation (AANA 1). CRNAs must ensure that they enroll in a graduate program accredited by the Council of Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia (COA). The program entrance requirements will be a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an appropriate baccalaureate degree, a current license as a registered nurse, National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses, and a graduate record examination (RNTOBSN 1). Furthermore, CRNAs must pass The National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. There’s also some requirements to take the NBCRNA exam which will be a hold of an active RN license in one’s state of employment, a hold of a graduate degree from a nursing anesthetist program accredited by the COA.

In most cases, the school will require a year of nursing experience in a clinical setting. The type of experience the RN chooses will depend on his or her interests. You'll be picking a direction or specialty while working that will inform your choice of specialty going forward. It might be geriatrics, pediatrics or intensive care. Step 4: Master of Science in Nursing or MSN
According to Kathleen Cullum, MSN, CRNP, “most organizations are now requiring that nurses have their RN license and many are requiring a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN).” The U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says “ only 17 percent of LPN’s are working in hospitals.” Additionally, it will cost you about double to stay in school and become an RN instead of an LPN. However this price is nothing compared to the difference in LPN vs RN pay.
I am driven and determined to have a career in nursing by becoming a student at NYU College of Nursing. My main source of inspiration to become a nurse comes from a deep desire to help people. Nurses have the ability to see people at their worst, while helping them become their best. This is the most rewarding experience and an experience that I want to obtain. Being a trilingual nursing student, I would love to use the skills I acquired in nursing to help the immigration population of NYC and translate for patients with language
She also says she’s glad she chose it over trying to become a practitioner since that’s far more stressful. She says there are several positives about her nursing career, good pay and ability to find work quickly all over the country, good health insurance from day one for you and your family. Nurses have the ability to help their community, by helping their patients, improving their quality of life and taking part in saving a person's life. She says that when studying to become a nurse there are a lot of tests and a lot of people don't understand how hard you have to work for that title. Her advice to whoever is interested in the field is to stick with it.
Many nurse practitioner programs require people to have one to two years of experience as a nurse before applying to the program (“The Path to Becoming”). According to AANP “Becoming an NP is a rigorous educational process underfed with evidence- based coursework and clinical rotations” This was just the beginning of the journey to become nurse practitioner but it is a rewarding profession that anyone would dream to
Nurse practitioner's hours are prolonged compared to any other job. As mentioned in Nurse Theory, the hours worked in a hospital are ten, twelve, and even twenty-four hour shifts and eight hours in a clinic. Vacation time is also known as paid time off, explained by NP Now. Paid time can be up to five weeks in most healthcare groups. Although it depends by your experience, someone who worked one year may only have nine days off and someone who has worked for fifteen years may have nineteen days off, per year.
There is a high significance for a nursing student completing their degree in nursing to start their career as a nurse practitioner. Nursing students must prepare to become nationally certified by an accredited body upon completion of their schooling in order to advance their career (AANP, 2016). This academic accreditation process helps to show that the students have met the requirements to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in their population focus testing. The scope of practice will be affected based on the certification that the practitioner obtains. If the Nurse Practitioner obtains a certification as a nurse specialists in pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, etc.
