The one extracurricular activity that has become a main priority in my life is my horses and barrel racing. Riding horses has become a stress reliever and a favorite pass time. It has become not only a sport, but a lifestyle. I began riding when I was only three years old. My mother bought me my very first pony and taught me how to ride. Ever since that day, and many, many horses later, I have been passionate about horses. I began going to local fun shows, where I would show in mainly pleasure classes. It gave me a great foundation of how to ride a horse correctly. I won many awards on my pleasure horse and really enjoyed doing it, but as I got older, I began to have a need for speed. With this being said, I started entering the speed classes. My …show more content…
I am currently riding a really nice barrel horse that my mother trained. He runs his heart out for me every weekend. I am so grateful to have him. In the past year, he has won me almost $4,000! We also raise colts, and we train a lot of them. Recently, I broke my very first colt that was given to me by a mom. It was a huge learning experience and extremely rewarding, but required a lot of patience, time, and responsibility. After I got this colt riding really nicely, I decided to sell him. He was only a two year old, so it would be awhile before I could really start him on the barrels hard because his joints hadn’t fully developed yet. I wanted to buy a mare that was ready to start on barrels and that I could breed to our stallion.I sold the colt within two days of posting the ad, and bought a mare soon after. My mare needed a ton of riding to be at the level my colt was at, but I finally have her at that level. I am now starting her on barrels, and I am so excited for her future. Riding horses my entire life has taught me so many things. I have learned responsibility, patience, putting another’s needs before my own, compassion, and
This heifer was a twin that my grandpa had on his farm. Grandpa named one of the twins, Josie after my sister and the other one Jessica, after me. This little calf that I bottle fed on my grandpa’s farm was now receiving the award of Reserve Supreme Heifer for the county fair. I couldn't believe I had done so well. I was so excited I couldn't wait to show again.
Many trainers want to prepare their young horses ' for the futurities and for thoroughbred racing at the age of sixteen through eighteen months. “Dr. Deb Bennett raises awareness

I always hear people say oh barrel racing it’s so easy all you do is go out there and run around metal barrels. Being a barrel racer is more than getting on a horse and going out into the arena and running around some metal barrels. To be a barrel racer it takes guts, determination, strength, agility, trust and a lot of patience. Barrel racing is all about the bond and trust you have with your horse because without that, you will never have a successful barrel racing career and you can get hurt.
The American Quarter Horse Association was found in 1940. Its sturdiness makes it known for a great work or cattle horse. Quarter horses are the most popular breed in the United States. There is an American Quarter Horse Association, which has all the registered quarter horses listed. Quarter horses come in almost every color, the most common being sorrel.
How Rodeo Is Not Animal Abuse Do you think that rodeo is a type of animal abuse? In my opinion it is not, just because you are using a animal does not mean you are abusing it. Several organizations think that rodeo is a form of animal abuse because the animals are being kicked with spurs or having a rope around their flank to make them buck.
The first words that came out of my mouth were “horse” and “bull”. I grew up around horses and bulls, and it’s what I do.
Every year the breed I show hosts a junior national in a different state and my family and I have traveled to every one since I started showing. For junior nationals each summer we have traveled to Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska, Kentucky, and Texas. Even though traveling to junior nationals each summer has called for many hours stuck in the back seat with my siblings and many miles on the road, I would not trade those moments for anything. I could name off so many memories and moments I have shared with my friends and family at shows and on the road to shows, but there are so many it’s hard to me to name them all off. I am so thankful to have a passion that gives me so much to remember and memories I can carry with me the rest of my
THE TIME I MADE IT TO LITTLE BRITCHES NATIONALS “OUR HORSES ARE OUR TEAMMATES, OUR SOUL MATES. IT’S A TEAM EFFORT. YOU CAN’T DO IT WITHOUT SO MANY PEOPLE BEHIND YOU.”
In high school rodeo, I always do anything to make my equine athletes feel their best. Our horses travel together so much that they pretty become a team. My horses, parents, and myself are a great team. My parents and I take care of the horses, while the horses take care of us. The horses love their job and being able to have one instead of doing nothing.
They are known for their sweet temperament and willingness to please. A Quarter horse is an excellent choice for a new rider.
Imagine sitting on the bleachers cheering on the jockeys and their horses, but, multiple red flags are being set off. Thoroughbreds collapse on the ground from exhaustion and jockeys begin whipping the horses. This is no sport, this is a death run. Even the winners and losers do not matter in this “sport” when they stop bringing in the greens or receive an injury on the track.
In those two and a half years I started racing. My first time I ever raced I got first place and it was the best feeling ever. I was so proud of what I had accomplished and wanted to keep racing. But after I placed first in that class I got bumped up to a new class that had bigger bikes and faster kids. At the time I was still on the 100 and I was racing kids on bikes twice as big as mine.
Natural Horsemanship is the best training method because it establishes safety and a good relationship between the horse and handler. Almost everyone has been warned at some point in their life that horses are dangerous and that you should never walk behind
I know horses have given me a good work ethic, compassion, and respect. Horses have also created a great bond between my sister and I, as we go riding a ton and spend many hours playing with them. Working with horses has taught me great responsibility, as my mom made me deal with most of the
