Abstract
The Australian Pine cones (APCs) was utilised as adsorbent material by physical and chemical activation for the adsorption Cu(II) from aqueous solution. FTIR and SEM analysis were conducted to obtain the active site and to characterise the surface morphology of the APCs activated carbon (APCs AC) prepared through pyrolysis at 1073.15 K and the alkaline activation of NaOH. The independent variables effect such as contact time, Cu(II) initial concentration and the activator ratio in the ranges of 0-150 mins, 6.5-370.5 mg/l and 0.2-0.6 (NaOH:APCs AC), respectively on the Cu(II) adsorption capacity were investigated in the APCs activated carbon-solution (APCs ACS) system with 1 g the APCs AC in 100 ml Cu(II) aqueous solution with magnetic stirring at 75 rpm, room temperature of 298.15 K (± 2 K), at 1 atm and normal pH. To start an experiment of adsorption isotherm, Cu(II) aqueous solution of 100 ml with the predetermined varying initial concentration of Cu(II) in the range of 6.5-370.5 mg/l and the best activator composition of NaOH was put into the erlenmeyer flask and stirred using a magnetic stirrer at 75 rpm, room temperature of 298.15 K (± 2 K), 1 atm and normal pH. For this lab, zeolite and magnetized zeolite were synthesized and compared with charcoal to find out with would be the most effective in the sequestering of Procion Red dye. Finding the concentration and absorbance of each zeolite, magnetized zeolite, and charcoal, along with a calibration curve, the best adsorbent is determined. Charcoal was the overall best sequestration of the Procion Red dye, since the adsorbent was highest compared to the others. Introduction Pollution has increased in the environment over the years, so the purpose of this experiment is to find the best adsorbent of chemicals to reduce the pollution.
The anion tests followed the cation tests. To test for the presence of the chloride (Cl-) anion, a small scoop of the unknown compound was mixed with 1 mL of water in a test tube to create a solution. Then, 1 mL of 6 M nitric acid (HNO3) and 1 mL of silver nitrate (Ag(NO3)2) solution were added to the test tube to see if a white precipitate formed. To test for the presence of the sulfate (SO42-) anion, a small scoop of the unknown compound was mixed with 1 mL of water in a test tube to create a solution. Then, 1 mL of 6 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) and 1 mL of barium chloride (BaCl2) solution were added to the test tube to see if a white precipitate formed.
The reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Carbonate led to the formation of gaseous Carbon Dioxide, aqueous water, and aqueous solution of Sodium Chloride as a result of all compounds containing alkali metals solubility. Lastly, Copper Sulfate and Sodium Carbonate reaction produced an aqueous sodium sulfate solution and a solid precipitate of Copper (II) Sulfite because of all alkali metals and sulfates ability to be soluble and the rule that any compound containing CO₃ is insoluble. In the end, the hypothesis that if we react mystery chemicals with one another, we will be able to identify the reactants and products, create balanced equations, and observe properties because of our prior knowledge learned throughout the course of the unit and using the known chemical reaction was accepted by the data
The heating of the solution caused the reaction to start which decomposed Cu(OH)2 and made the solution colorless and darkened the precipitate. The fourth step was the formation of CuSO4. After the solution was decanted from the precipitate and washed with near boiling water, 6 M H2SO4 was added to the beaker containing Copper (II) Oxide and this caused the precipitate to dissolve and the liquid become clear blue. The last step was the formation of Cu(s). This step recovered Solid elemental copper.
Malachite was synthesized using the following reaction (1): 2CuSO4*5H2O(aq) + 2Na2CO3(aq) CuCO3Cu(OH)2(s) + 2Na2SO4(aq) + CO2(g) + 9H2O(l) Based on this chemical equation, two moles of aqueous hydrated copper (II) sulfate reacted with aqueous sodium carbonate, a precipitate of copper (II) carbonate hydroxide was formed along with aqueous sodium sulfate, gaseous carbon dioxide, and liquid water. It was known that a chemical reaction was occurring when the copper (II) sulfate solution was mixed in with the sodium carbonate based on the fact that the color of the solution changed from blue to light blue and the solution frothed. Before each time point the photo spectrometer was zeroed using a cuvette with 3mL of distilled water. If any of the results were considered unusual the machine was zeroed again and the sample was retested. The results from the spectrophotometer test were recorded in a table. Abstract: Pure elemental copper was cycled through a series of five chemical reactions and changes in the physical properties of the solution (or precipitate) was observed. Using a variety of methods such as precipitation reactions, acid-base reactions, and oxidation-reduction (or redox) reactions, copper was converted and transformed into different states, including solid compounds and ionic form. After all the transformations, it was concluded that the percent recovery of copper was 126%, which was determined by calculating the mass copper remaining divided by the initial mass and multiplied by 100. Although the effort to try and eliminate conventional smoking for good is obvious, the way some people go about this elimination is not as safe as they want to think. Rhetorical Analysis of Anti-Smoking Commercial Anti-smoking commercials are known for several similar ads. Most of the anti-smoking ads are known for women mimicking holding a button to talk or a young girl pulling layers off her skin. But has anyone ever seen the commercial that reflects children turning the table on adults showing them how they feel when they smoke? This commercial features older children and adults standing around smoking and young children of the age’s seven to nine walking up and asking them if they had a lighter. The adults begin to start telling each child why they wouldn’t want to smoke and why it’s bad for you.

Many reports have been issued based on the evidence regarding the devastating health affecs of smoking and the expose of second hand smoke. Unfortunatly, cigarette smoking has reportedly caused about 480,000 deaths anually in the United States with an account of 41,000 deaths due to second hand smoking. It is indicated that America has the greatest heath issues from smoking. Neverless, it has been declining due to the rise on taxes and the promotions to cut down tabacco use advetisement. Smoking can be very addictive but there are many ways to help stop that I’ll get to soon.
