I love teaching when the learning in classroom is creative and tangible: When I can sense it in the quickening pace of a roundtable or a student’s visible delight in using newly learned jargon; when I can hear the excitement in students’ testimonials about mastering skills that “made a difference” or theories that transformed practices and perspectives. I count these as teaching successes and make it a habit to reflect on their origins so that I can recreate the conditions for their occurrence repeatedly. The material I teach will inform my philosophy of teaching: relevant scholarship, and the lesson I have learned from personal teaching successes and failures. Classroom activities and assignments will be student-led and compelled by students’ …show more content…
Critical thinking skills, academic knowledge, creative expression, thought and expression are of many ways arts integration enrich and deepen students understanding of arts and academic disciplines. As I implement arts integration within my classroom, I will carefully plan learning goals embedded within the curricular areas and national standards for arts. Building on a student’s knowledge and skills creates a quality foundation for art instruction. Staying consistent and reinforcing, each integrated art discipline through various models of instruction will implement a successful foundation of arts instruction with core …show more content…
Imagination and emotion play an important role in an individual artistic process. As both of these demonstrate an expression of our feeling, which expand upon our sensory images and our emotions. When looking at the imagination aspect of art, a child is to express their imagination within the given subject. Emotions are used to direct the art facet of the cross curriculum activity. As each day brings forth new feelings and emotions a child’s artistic thoughts will vary from day to day. Taking both imagination and emotion theories into perspective as it clearly is explained within the Applied Research in Child Development article, as a feature teacher we exemplify and encourage students to be imaginative and use their feelings through arts integrations, as those theories create unique and individual learning experiences for the students. When children are to use these theories of art they have a sense of control and motivation to want to learn and continue to learn. Developing a foundation of motivation and engagement can only instigate and light a fire to the child’s education. Within my own individual classroom, it is important to support and encourage students to put forth imagination and emotions in their cross curriculum activities. I will build a
In the video Building Relationships: Share Passion with Students, Mr. Van Dyck shows us what it means to be a teacher that models a passion for learning by showing interest in your students. Mr. Van Dyck connects with his students in ways that allow him to take interest in his students. When students see that you show interest towards them and care about their education, then they develop more interest to learn. Mr. Van Dyck connects with individual students by taking interest in them, he challenges himself to find a special interest in each one of them, and he also find ways in which he can see himself in them. This video also shows how you can draw on some of your own personal experiences to better understand and connect with your students;
Of my many volunteer and paid extra-curricular activities, the most important to me is the National Art Honor Society, which extends artistic activities to my community. We organize two school events: the Festival of Trees and the Talent Competition. The Festival of Trees is an event when every school club can choose to donate and decorate a tree that we set up. All of the money raised goes to an organization of our choice. For the last 4 years, we have donated to Street Grace, which benefits the fight against human trafficking, especially in the Metro Atlanta area.
New York is a great town, filled with new sights and old friends. One of the many things that Bullard TALENT did in my 7th grade year while in New York was sight-see. Bullard TALENT traveled all over the city, observing the busy residents and the famous landmarks, like the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, and Central Park. While all of these places were unforgettable, in my opinion, the best thing that we got to see was a Broadway production of Aladdin. It was truly amazing.
In the introduction, the writer " bell hooks" implied that becoming a teacher was a result of the pressure coming from people 's beliefs. However, the writer 's real interest was actually writing. Because of antiracist struggle, education was essentially political. In addition, teachers were committed to pass their feeling of fighting racism to students as a way to uplift the race. The writer said that her home was a place that she had to pretend to be someone else.
Scott Alexander's book, "Expressive Arts Education & Therapy," provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of expressive arts therapy and its application in education and therapy. The book is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on the theoretical and historical background of expressive arts therapy, and the second part exploring the practical applications of expressive arts therapy in various contexts. In the first part of the book, Alexander outlines the philosophical underpinnings of expressive arts therapy, emphasizing the importance of creativity, imagination, and play in human development and healing. He also explores the historical roots of expressive arts therapy, tracing its evolution from the early 20th century to the present day, as well as practical applications for its use in various settings.
After numerous e-mails to each other, Mr. Bowe and I decided to schedule the interview in his classroom for Friday, October 9th. Analogous with the majority of those that enter the teaching profession, Mr. Bowe’s desire to better the lives of students began with a fundamental inspiration: his teachers. Teachers are, in one word, influential. A great teacher inspires their students to love learning.
My own experience in the arts has shown me that arts is important to a child’s education. The arts has helped me grow as a person in multiple ways. Arts has helped me build a creative side, which
skills, such as the integration of arts and history where one can use an ancestral object and perform a drama to develop the confidence to utilise the acquired skills within the classroom settings (Davies, 2009). In the article ‘What is the Role of Art in the Primary School’ they believe the role of arts education in the primary school is to shape teachers perceived competences in the teaching of arts whereas others believe that art partnerships between schools and the arts community will foster artist-teacher collaboration to represent a significant approach to arts education. if teachers have a passion for arts and their theory is based on self-efficacy then it’s very simple for them to collaborate art education in the classroom. However, if the teachers have a weak self efficacy for the arts education they are less likely to teach the arts across the five strands because self efficacy theory is one which emphasize on the behavioural attitude to
The arts were pushed into a corner, despite being able to help students grow who they are as people, but also help them in other important areas of school. The arts are important in education and should get funding appropriately. Receiving a good education in the arts can greatly help a student’s mental well being. Many students in school are shy, reserved,
Art has a grandiose capacity to incite emotion. This philosophy has generally been labeled “The Arousal Theory” which breaks down the ability of art to provoke an emotional response. There have been other versions of the theory such as the “The Expression Theory” which states that art evokes the emotions the artist felt while creating the piece. No matter the theory, however, the consensus that art can facilitate emotions goes unchallenged (Citation). However, occasionally art does not stop there.
A team approach for planning, implementing, participating in, and assessing arts integration programs is a critical factor in ensuring success. Arts integration supports authentic experiences, which engages and motivates students to achieve academic excellence. The arts component provides students with multiple modes of learning and understanding. Arts integration intensifies academic rigor as students engage problem-solving skills to draw connections across disciplines and demonstrate competency through creative
The painter, the photographer, and the sculptor create their joy as if they are a child with a box of crayons. Forged in creativity, their piece growing closer to their heart and the viewers. Art heals, art helps, and art teaches. Without it, we are not human but with it, we can create galaxies. Art’s beneficial impact on communities is evident through effective health treatment, adaptive education, and economic gain.
It is hardly debatable that there is a link between a person’s environments while growing up and how this helps to alter and shape the person they become later in life. This includes not only a person’s personality, but also how he or she interprets events that are occurring in day to day life. One of the most unique ways of observing this link can be seen through art work. Every artist has a unique past and history that allows them to create works that conceptualize their own personal views. Factors such as media, color, symbols, form, etc. reflect how an artist is able to portray something as well as how it can invoke intended emotions from the observer.
For years, Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) struggled to reform Bates Middle School’s, a highly diverse and largely minority populated school, performance as indicated by state standardized testing scores, which were 14-27% behind the county average. “Bates was marked for Corrective Action (the third and highest tier of school improvement) by AACPS” (Snyder, Klos & Grey-Hawkins, 2014, p. 3). To improve student engagement and achievement the school decided to apply a different curricular approach that focused on “the integration of art into the academic content curricula [to provide] a logical approach to address the variety of students’ intelligences that are reflected in their different learning
The beauty of teaching being a tool lies deep within the possibilities that can develop from the use of this tool. All people can use tools to help others; and while typically teachers and students believe it is only the job of the educator to teach the student, my hope is that my students will teach
