The Second Amendment had made a big impact in the U.S. The Second Amendment stated “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the to security of a free state , the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” Many citizens do not support the second amendment or as known as Anti-Federalists. Anti-Federalists is anyone who doesn’t support anything in the constitution. But it needs to be supported by the citizens to keep yourself safe.

The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of the individual to keep and bear firearms. When the Second Amendment was written it was for the right to arm oneself as a personal liberty to deter undemocratic or oppressive governing bodies from forming and to repel impending invasions. Furthermore, gun advocates proclaim that guns are for the right to self-defense. Some people try to participate and uphold the law. It confuses a lot in that some people argue that those that have the rights to possess firearms for self-defense are only the military. It does not specify that the citizens have the right to own firearms for self-defense and personal use. A study conducted by a Yale Professor showed that the “shall-issue” laws resulted in a rise in the rates of the violence, crimes, rape, and robbery hence with this it could be concluded that ownership of firearms by citizens lead to an increase in the crime rates.

The topic of gun control and firearm regulation has been subject to heated debate for a long while. Both sides have potent arguments, however the core of this issue ultimately boils down to the constitution itself. More specifically the second amendment. This argument quickly becomes quite complicated because gun control and firearm regulation concerns not only the right of citizens, but more importantly the safety of citizens. The second amendment helps to guarantee an imperative right belonging to all citizens.

The second amendment states “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Us americans don't need to “bear arms.” Some may say that many people use them to hunt but there are many other weapons you can use to hunt with as well as protecting yourself from danger. By having the second amendment, it gives criminals the right to go out and harm people, whether it be a family member, friend, someone you walk past. Statistics say that “The U.S. has an estimated 283 million guns in civilian hands.

When the government, The British, came into our territory back during the Revolutionary War many citizens were armed ready to defend themselves. Though when the British came the British army started to take away the people's guns! This created the opportunity for the British army to take control over the citizens. People may also say that our founding fathers created this amendment back when people had muskets. This is not the reason why we created the amendment because if we still used muskets that would create an unbalanced power between the government and the people.

What Does the 2nd Amendment Mean to You? When asked what the second amendment is, one would normally answer “the right to bear arms”, which is true. This right is guaranteed to U.S. Citizens under our Constitution. Due to recent events and circumstances, this freedom and right that has been granted is now threatened by those who feel that it is too “dangerous” to protect yourself. Being that I myself nor any of my family owns a firearm, one might speculate that we do not feel the need for protection.

The right to bear arms has been a controversial issue ever since James Madison established it as the second amendment of the constitution. Those in favor of the second amendment, believe that arms are used for protection, dangerous situations, and sports.
