There are seven perspectives on ethical theory: consequentialism, natural law, duty, rights, virtue, instinct, and authority. Each of them relate to morality and decision-making. Some, however, are debated more so than others by their properties and which are best to use when solving problems. Unlike other theories it 's not something one should have to fight for, or earn, or know. One can only get better at it by practicing it. It creates an opportunity to not be selfish and look at how other people act and how they are virtuous and gives you a chance to be more like other people. Emulating others who are virtuous allows for more rational thinking and a better sense in general of doing the right thing. According to an article titled, Virtue Ethics: An Approach to Moral Dilemmas in Nursing, “Virtues are beneficial to human interaction and communication, and to the functioning of human society,” (Arries, 2005). The basis of the theory believes that one who is virtuous, can attain the culmination of humanity and achieve eudaimonia. And solving problems in general is less difficult when the people involved believe in the same goals since those people believe their is always more to be accomplished. Virtue makes people realize that it 's not all about them, and that sometimes it 's about the whole, or the issue, or the Good. The founders also stated that for their to be virtue there needs to be religion, as one must render god and put all faith in him as the source of all organisms and the principles of daily routines. As the founders mentioned, virtue is vital because without virtue there can be no liberty, which is key in American societies. In order for one to be virtuous they need to display morally good or righteous qualities. According to the founding fathers the moral man knows that there are set parameters regarding how he can live.

Contemporary virtue theories do not grasp nor represents the Aristotelian theory, because they think that it is impossible to escape the charge of relativism in virtue ethics. According to the relativist approach, ethical goodness is relative to each society depending on its traditions and practices. It is thought that virtue can only be outlined locally with reference to a single locale. Relativists reject the idea that there is a general rule, based on specific virtuous actions, that leads to the good life i.e. they reject that there is a single virtue (or norm of flourishing life) that is able to flourish the life of all human beings.
The idea of virtue ethics was first introduced to the world by Aristotle over 2,300 years ago in 325 BC (Rachels 173). Virtue ethics operate on the belief that people develop good character by looking at the virtues they admire in other people and emulating them.
