Argumentative Essay: Undocumented Immigrants

The book “Harvest of Empire” (chap. 11 ) States that “Immigration policy has provoked fierce public debate in the United States for more than twenty years.” However, when this theme is touched, so many mixed emotions are heard, felt, even seen, and this is because this issue deals with everything from consideration for another human being to the country’s safety.

Many come into the U.S. illegally for these same quests because their life back home is miserable, and everyday they wait to leave their homeland is another day their family has to suffer. While many may argue that illegal immigrants are breaking the law by entering the U.S., most do not break any laws after entering. If illegal immigrants do nothing wrong for a five years while residing in the U.S. and follow all the laws, they should be granted citizenship. By recognizing the importance of immigrants that have resided productively in the U.S. having the opportunity to attain legal citizenship, by refuting those who claim that all illegal immigrants should be deported, and by presenting personal observations and documented evidence to present the typical life of an immigrant in American society, all concerned will be persuaded to open their arms to existing immigrants already

“At the states and local level alone, Undocumented immigrants nationwide collectively pay an estimated $11.64 Billion each year in taxes, according to a recent report by the institute on taxation and economic policy. …. Many undocumented immigrants also pay state income taxes.” The Immigrants are coming to live in America for a better life, but they aren’t just coming here to live for free they are paying taxes. so why can’t they stay in America to live there dream to do something in life? Immigrants from all over have helped the states and other countries become much better, for their own good and their future.

Immigrants have been dreaming about the promise of America for hundreds of years, but only the people who are brave enough have continued on coming to become a true American. Many different ethnicities have traveled into America to live their American dream, which is to have a job, house, a family of their own, and to have Freedom. Many people could either travel by train or boat. The poem “The New Colossus 1883” by Emma Lazarus tells a main idea of the Statue of Liberty represents freedom for many immigrants.

According to a study released last year by the Pew Hispanic Center, as of 2008, 11.9 million illegal immigrants lived in the United States, more than triple the 3.5 million who lived in the country in 1990 (Izumi). Immigration throughout the years has become a major issue in the U.S because of too many immigrants entering the country year after year. The U.S has come to a point whether they should deport the immigrants back to their country. Believe it or not, these immigrants are a big contribution to the U.S. If it wasn’t for them, the U.S economy wouldn’t be where it stands now.

Senator Charles Shumer, writing in an up front magazine, in 2016 says ¨we need to modernize and fix our immigration system, to ensure that the door to America remains as open to the future generations as it was for our ancestors.” What Sen. Shumer is saying here is that Once America had the doors open to people but now the government wants to close them. He is saying that the government should let immigrant have a path to citizenship so America can have the same reputation as in the past. America has always been a country of immigrants and what he is trying to say is that the immigration system must be fixed so we maintain the country this ways as it was for our ancestors. Now some might argue that this was the past but now we are in the future.

Argumentative Writing Undocumented immigrants are getting deported and they can’t have an experience they wanted to have when they came to america. But, because of the us government they can’t have this experience some get this experience but they still have to be very careful. They all also fear because some of them have kids then they fear for themselves and then there kids because it’s their family. Do you want to live in a community where you see mexican and people on the streets because of crossing the border. This is why i think that the government shouldn’t deport undocumented immigrants because then they don't get a chance to have an american experience.

Immigration laws have also been very controversial about their morality and their actions can outrageously impact families lives forever. There are a lot of controversial issues surrounding this country. Whitin all those controversial issues there 's the “issue” of illegal immigration. I 'm sure we 're all familiar with the term “illegal immigration”. We’re always told about how bad it is. Don 't get me wrong, it is bad but it 's not done with the intention of hurting someone else but to try and change their future.

In times such as now, immigration policy is a topic of controversial and emotional discussion. The key in having educational, progressive, and prosperous conversations is understanding the theoretical foundations behind the argument that a person stands for or believes in. Having factual evidence to support ideas on concepts such as: the opportunities that immigrants bring to a country, what the international rules actually are that govern the entry and  exit of people from one country to another, and the causes, trends, and consequences of international immigration. Finding reason and support for these claims can take the discussion behind immigration policy from one of heated and emotional argument to one of educational and beneficial conversation.

The general idea or claim of this argumentative piece is that building a wall in order for the immigrants not to get through has a lot of flaws and won't work as the Congress think it would.

Argument Speech: Mexican Border Security Policy “It was a cold December morning waking up finding my dad watching the news, I sat down and witness how far Mexico has fallen. Officials have uncovered weapons, drugs, and secret tunnels. I could listen to my dad cursing because this has brought the fall of a once beautiful used to be country and now it only looks like the place where criminals can roam around free. The reason we came to the U.S. was because of the mischiefs of many people finding a way to survive trying to make money on whatever they could find that was all you could think of over there. I thought to myself at that moment bless be the people in the Southern border that have risked their lives to protect the U.S. from the people that would like to destroy and ruin this beautiful country.”

Parker’s article is opposite of Rodriguez’s. She believes illegal immigrants have no right to complain or demonstrate for their rights. In this article, Parker uses a few more facts than Rodriguez but it still appears to be based mostly on her personal opinion. Parker states that “the recent pro-immigration demonstrations around the country have been a major turnoff.”

The United States of America, being a country founded by immigrants, is known all over the world as the land of great opportunities. People from all walks of life travelled across the globe, taking a chance to find a better life for them and their family. Over the years, the population of immigrants has grown immensely, resulting in the currently controversial issue of illegal immigration. Illegal immigrants are the people who have overstayed the time granted on their US, visa or those who have broken the federal law by crossing the border illegally. Matt O’Brien stated in his article “The government thinks that 10.8 million illegal immigrants lived in the country in January 2009, down from a peak of nearly 12 million in 2007.”(Para, 2) While some argue that illegal immigrants burden the United States of America and its economy, others believe that they have become essential and are an important part of the US, economy.

Additional possible fallacies of the speech is, once people vote against immigration, the people who oppose this act believe this will solve all economic, and social problems. The possible immigration reform is suggesting, the illegal immigrants are saved from everything, and that it was in good faith to enter the country illegally. The speech will persuade people to rethink the advantages and the possible effects for voting against illegal immigration
