In a 1980 study, researchers of the University of Maryland and Pennsylvania were to record and report the survival rates of ninety-two individuals with severe heart trouble, fifty-three receiving a pet animal of some sort. At the end of the year, eleven of the thirty-nine heart patients without a pet had died, while only three of the fifty-three with a pet had died. Why is it that the survival rate for those without pets was only seventy-two percent, while the survival rate for those with a pet was a whopping 94 percent? The simple answer can be found in later-conducted research: simply being in an animal’s presence both lowers blood pressure and reduces stress, while stroking an animal leads to the release of endorphins, the brain’s pleasure chemical (Gorman 1). For these reasons, among others, many hospitals, nursing homes, and therapists across America use dogs to aid patients. However, these are not the only situations in which dogs have been used to improve behavior: beginning in the 1980s, programs have been pairing up puppies with prisoners in the hopes to both lower the rate of recidivism and to train dogs to become service animals.
Sarah Harrington Mrs. Rechan English 4 15 February 2022 The Controversy of Service Animals. Many people believe that service animals are the angels of this earth. Yet some people debate, what should and shouldn’t be able to take this angel title? We all know that dogs are the main symbols of supporting animals, yet many people argue, why can't we have other animals as well?
Many people’s lives are saved because of firearms every year. There are many times where someone’s life is in danger because of a shooter, and many times, lives have been saved because of one person who is willing to stand up against the danger, and fight for their life. These people are called sheepdogs. Sheepdogs are the people around us who have the mindset of being a protector to those people who are around them. Many times, these sheepdogs are thrust into situations such as a shooting when they need to stand up and fight to be able to help those around them.
They can help people with balance issues from falling or help by cushioning their fall, Help a blind person cross the road, help someone with PTSD to finally get out of the house, Help someone with dementia or mental illness to take their medicine, and many more heroic behaviors. Any dog can become a service animal if they go through training. Any breed of dog can become a service animal too. All types of dogs are eligible to become services dogs, each potentially providing a different type of service. Service dog laws do not include dog breed restrictions or weight discrimination (“Service Dog Requirements”, 2017).
In our society, it has been noticed that women are more identified and associated with their body images than men and are valued by how they look. To gain social acceptability, women are under constant pressure to correct their bodies and appearances to conform to society’s ideal feminine figure. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, is an animal rights organization that focuses on establishing and defending the rights of all animals. “PETA operates on the simple principle that animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, or use for entertainment.” In a campaign to promote pro-vegetarianism, Pamela Anderson poses wearing a bikini with her bodied marked, as if being labeled at a butcher shop, her body parts labeled as “rump”, “round”, “breasts”, and so on, as the ad reads “All Animals Have the Same Parts”.
In Foer’s article, “My Life as a Dog”, he elaborates on how dogs are the key to happiness. He also talks about how he loves his dog and that it is the only thing that brings comfort to him. In the last paragraph he describes his dog as carefree, which is exactly how dogs are. Pets help their owner feel loved and needed; likewise, dogs provide a sense of companionship and sense of purpose to their owners. In a recent survey by the Human-Animal Bond Research Institute, 74% of pet owners said having a pet improved their mental health.
I think that animals should have the Bill of Rights because throughout civilization, nations have codified the basic and essential rights of their people-rights that must not be infringed upon by the government or other individuals or entities. Though much of big science has centered on breakthrough in biotechnology, nanotechnology and more esoteric questions like the age of our universe. And there are no federal laws at all protecting the billions of animals raised for food for the most egregious abuses. The law is concerned the situations for animals in this country is dire. Despite the fact that they are living, feeling beings, animals in the U.S. are still considered merely “property” by law in most cases no different then a table or

Animal rights has been a long-debated topic that continues to cause controversy over many things in society today. For a long time, there have been people who believed that animals should be treated more fairly, if not treated equally, to humans. While animals cannot speak and have been a main food source for thousands of years, some people believe they are not meant to be food. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is one of the largest animal rights activist groups in the world. They have been known to publicly make statements directed towards a specific person or group, without directly saying the name of the targeted person or group.
There was a dog scrunched up on the roots of a tall redwood. With the rain pounding on the road, the dog would do anything to find a warm, cozy shelter, and food. There are about 7.6 million pets that get abandoned in a year in just the U.S. Don’t follow careless owners’ mistakes- change them back into achievements by helping, where there are many options you can choose.
Did you know that everyday an animal dies from abuse, starvation, sickness, and from the horrors of mills? I believe that animal abuse is monstrous. Mills are cruel and unfair. I want Petco to stop getting their animals from mills and to start giving them the right veterinary care. What your company is doing is traumatizing.
So where does the rights of animals come from? Many people do not understand animal rights and how we should treat them equally and why. Through animal research and experiments, humans are getting benefit and gains in the obscene inhumane ways. Animal rights have become a big issue over the years. Not long ago, animal rights activists were dismissed, and covered in the press only for their activities.

Approximately 1 million animals are subjected to animal abuse yearly. It is such an awful thing and you would think that there would be pretty severe punishment for it. With 5 degrees of felony it is ranked #4, with #1 being the most severe I find it absurd that it is not taken more seriously. I feel that animal abuse laws should be much stricter. Majority of animals affected by animal abuse is dogs such loving and caring animals getting hurt is sad and just think of all the other animals that get abused.
More than often on the news we see the subject of human rights being brought up. With this always being brought to the attention we tend to dehumanize everything else including animals. The animals we have gone as far to domesticate are seen as less than people, Even though it is not as commonly brought up animal abuse happens more than we think. With that said i strongly believe that the penalties against animal abuse should be equal to those against humans. It seems apparent that the value of a human life is far more than an animal's.
