Afterwards the crew tried to connect these two completely different machines using only the materials that could be found in the spaceship. Although the astronauts had to test it, it was not possible to improve the design as needed, so it had to be perfect the first time they were to make and use it. Our group used this process when we were faced with the difficulty of constructing a working, effective bridge to get the ping pong ball from one side to the other. We first thought about how to succeed, made a sketch of what our bridge was going to look like, and decided on one design that would potentially lead to success. For a few more days, it was just building the bridge; the paper tube itself, then the base, and finally the wall that would …show more content…
One aspect that both had was the limited materials and the limited time. If it was possible to use any amount of any items, it would have been simpler and easier to construct the bridge or attach the LEM to the Command Module. We could have used strong materials such as metal or wood for the base, and the astronauts could have come up with a better way to do what they needed to do. This also goes the same for the amount of time, since both teams could have taken their time and fixed whatever they needed to. Secondly, there was the fact that there was only one chance to test. Just like the astronauts who only had one chance of trying and succeeding, our team only could conduct the trial once, for a duration of 3 minutes. This is similar to Apollo 13 because if they had not done well on the first try, they could not have tried again since there would be dangerous amounts of carbon dioxide and too little oxygen in the ship. Had it been possible to attempt numerous times, it would have been less harder to resolve the problem in the first few tries. In summary, there were multiple connections between the astronauts in Apollo 13 and us, along with the many other things we learned about both
There are many theories of how the first People came to the United States. Before, it was believed that the Bering Strait land bridge theory was the only option for how people came to the Americas. Three theories are the Bering Strait theory, the Pacific Coast theory, and the Solutrean theory. None of these theories may be true and how they actually got here, is still unknown.
One of the greatest space mission is the third mission to land on the Moon, Apollo 13. The Apollo 13 mission to the moon may have been the most miraculous event in history. Not only were the astronauts able to make it through any obstacle they faced, but they used their intellect in every situation. After getting through all the phases of getting through space, such as releasing certain parts of the shuttle and preparing their landing craft, they realize something’s wrong. Their oxygen tanks exploded!
Second, after the launch the center engine of the second stage dropped off more than two minutes early. Third, the third stage engine also was fired an extra 9 seconds during its orbital insertion burn. In conclusion Apollo 13 gave us a great way to learn space in a difficult way, and it gives us an example of how NASA can change their way of sending people into space in a safer
During Apollo 13, there was an explosion that caused them to barely make it back to Earth. During our space unit in 5th grade, we watched the movie Apollo 13. Now, I know more about the commander of Apollo 13. Others who also watched Apollo 13 have a connection to James Lovell as well. In this mission, he had to persevere and keep trying
However, the consensus was not easy to reach. Commander Lewis told the crew that ““we’ll only do it if we all agree. And before you answer, consider the consequences,”” there were many ways that the rescue mission could have gone wrong, and the team knew that if they messed up the supply rendezvous or the Earth gravity assist, they would die (Weir. 211). Additionally, they understood that saving Watney would require five hundred and thirty- three additional days of unplanned space travel that could also prove perilous. It would also mean that from start to finish, their mission would last over one thousand days.
John wanted to go to space again same as Bob. So they had a plan to go to space again. They fixed their spaceship’s engines, windows and they filled the petrol tank with fuel. They also cleaned the spaceship and it looked like new. Bob made an experiment to make the powerful engine even more powerful.
At first the other astronaut was against this but then his boss threatened to put him on later mission, then he complies. At the time, replacing the astronaut with the new one seemed like the right thing to do to solve the issue but it was semi-successful. It solved the sick astronaut problem but the other two astronauts have not worked and practiced with the new replacement as much and overall wasn’t comfortable with him. This was also very scary for them because they were used to practicing with each other. Then, a few days before the launch they had to get a new member and go to space with him it’s not rationale it just feels overall rushed.
What we have done fine was that we started building after discussing. What we have done wrong was that we have took too much time discussing. We talked for more the 10 minutes (despite the fact that we only have 18 minutes in total) and tried to complete the building in the last few minutes. We all wanted to make it as high as possible so that was why we discussed too much. What we were supposed to do was to discuss just a little bit and spend more time on actually building it.
Apollo 13 is an award winning movie starring Tom Hanks and Kevin bacon that was release in June 1995. As a historical movie, many people like to think that just because it’s based on a past event the movie is granted unquestioned accuracy. Well, Apollo 13 is actually very historically accurate in its events and the setting, both outside of Earth and on Earth, but it does have a few inaccuracies in portraying the characters but were put in to make the film more interesting than the actual Apollo mission of the early 70’s. The crew of the Apollo 13 mission, both at central control and the lunar module, were depicted very differently than how they actually behaved.
What we did to change that is we changed how tall the legs on the bse were they were originally 8 centimeters tall and we changed it to 6 centimeters tall. The reason why we changed this is because of Newton’s First Law. An object at rest will stay at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. Our bridge was causing an unbalanced force which is why the legs of the bridge broke in the first place. Our bridge wasn’t staying standing because it was to tall creating and unbalanced force which is why the bridge ended up breaking in that
The mission to land on the moon known as Apollo 11 marks the highest summit of mankind’s achievements. Jerry Bostick was an engineer on the flight team and emphasizes the difficulties that preceded the first walk on the moon. “The first manned Apollo flight, Apollo 7, remains an unheralded mission,” Bostick said. The Apollo missions in the past had seen various setbacks and tragedies, and the success of Apollo 7 was absolutely crucial to the continuation of the Apollo missions. “By Apollo 7, the command module capsule had been redesigned and made much safer, then put into Earth orbit to prove its airworthiness.”
That needed all the specific parts, in all the specific places for the structure to work. And this could have possibly
Apollo 11 was the first ever success in traveling to the Moon, landing on the Moon, and reentering safely to Earth. It gave the United States scientific credit across the globe in achieving landing on the Moon first. The Apollo 11 mission was a great success for the United States, but how did they accomplish “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”? President John F. Kennedy had two main reasons for traveling to space, setting a national goal, and beating the Soviet Union in being the first to accomplish the space race.
And, he did it all with a little bit of paper and glue. This is definitely something you want to check out. Especially since it can actually shoot paper bullets! What I wouldn’t give to have one of these suckers when I was a kid. This will leave you scratching your Head Science is a pretty cool thing.
