Stop The Suffer: Find a Solution The estimated number of animals used in experiments worldwide in 2005 was 115.3 million, according to Cynthia Burnett (2009). Since that time and even before, animal testing became such a controversial issue. People continuously argue about important questions that concern its actual effectiveness, morality, and legality. Animal testing refers to the procedure of testing medicines and industry products on living animals to acquire knowledge with practical benefits for people and evaluate the products’ safety and usefulness. Some people support animal testing because it helped in finding life-saving cures for several diseases, animals themselves benefited from the results of these experiments, and the governments …show more content…
First of all, it is important to understand that along with the question of utility of animal experiments, there is a question of morality. From their point of view, the use of animals in experiments is immoral and inhumane since the results are meant to benefit human beings for the most part. Also, some experiments are harmful and painful for the animals involved. For example, burning, cutting animals’ tails and ears off, poisoning, testing chemicals on them, and other severe practices are done in laboratories, as mentioned in Marinescu and Coman’s article (2010). Additionally, researchers in a lab at the University of Connecticut were drilling holes in monkeys’ heads as a part of their experiment. As a result of their cruel action the lab ended up being closed (Ericson, 2014). Moreover, there are insignificant similarities between humans and animals that make them poor testing subjects. It is imperative to note that human beings react differently to drugs as compared to animals; therefore, if the use of animals in experiments persists, they may not derive the most desirable outcome (Webster, 2014). Despite the fact that mammals and humans have some similarities in the body structure, they react differently to some medicines. For example, guinea pigs die after consuming Penicillin and cats die from Aspirin (Burnett, 2009). In the end, the success of a certain experiment depends mainly on …show more content…
Based on a study published by Forensic Science International journal, it is clearly revealed that researchers who are experimenting try to minimize animal suffering whenever it is possible. In fact, 60.8% of animal experiments were using anesthetic to reduce the pain involved (Cattaneo, Maderna, Rendinelli, & Gibelli, 2015). Furthermore, animal experiments have been valuable to human beings owing to discoveries that have assisted cure diseases. For this reason, the author Shany Sun (2012), who is in favor of animal testing notifies that human life increase by 23.5 years after using animals in experiments, as stated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This is another fact that people who are against animal testing agree on. In a research that suggests a control over torture in experiments, the authors indicate that “[a]nimal testing was, is, and will be an important stage for the medical and biological research” (Marinescu & Coman, 2010, p.
Specific Purpose: By the end of my speech, the audience will know about the problem of conducting experiments on animals and the ethical issue of the cruel treatment of animals by the researchers. While the problem of conducting experiments on animals draws attention of the society, the speech would present the limitation of animal experiments and outline the alternatives. Central Idea: 1. Conducting experiments on animals has become one of crucial ethical issues of the modern society and it has even been banned in some countries.
In conclusion, I disagree with use animals for experiments because testing animals may be only a little life which was forgotten. Some species were classified as animals disgusting. But what of the animals was back with an enormous value which allows humans to develop various medical science and help humans survived a disease. It would not be wrong to say that the success of these is what is derived from experimental animals. So, it is time we should look at the lives of animals as creatures that must bear the pain instead of
Animal experimentation has achieved many accomplishments over the years but most of the time when people set out to bring it down, most of these accomplishments did not matter. Many of which couldn’t have happened in test tubes, nor could they have been as fast and/or efficient. These successes ranges from blood transfusions to antibiotics, from organ transplantation to dialysis, from chemotherapy to vaccinations, joint replacement and bypass surgery, basically every protocol for the prevention, treatment, cure and control of pain, suffering and disease is based on knowledge attained through research with
Audience Throughout the centuries our views on animal testing has drastically changed. Animal experimentation is when a live animal is forced to perform something or get performed on, that likely causes pain and suffering. Animal experiments include injecting or force feeding animals with harmful substances, exposing animals to radiation, forcing animals to inhale toxic gases, or surgically removing animals’ organs to cause damage. Animal testing can have both pros and cons to it. A pro to animal testing is that it doesn 't put humans to harm.
Animal testing has become a double-edged sword topic all around the world. Researchers believe that it is morally ethical to conduct extreme research procedures on animals when it is unethical to conduct on humans. Research is responsible for many medical breakthroughs and an important factor to the development of medical advances is the inclusion of animals in research. Medical research with the help of animal testing has prevented hepatitis B, measles, etc. (Karayiannis et al. 2004).
Due to their on average two year lifespan, drugs tested on animals have accelerated results, allowing them to be more efficient test subjects in comparison to humans. Evidently, due to their genetic structure, animals are appropriate test subjects for medical
Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year. Many people have a problem with animal experimentation because it is animal cruelty. Although animal testing brings more medical advancement and less human-based experiments, it is expensive and doesn’t always have guaranteed results and at the same time, it is animal cruelty. One reason animal experimentation should stop is because not only are animal lives being wasted but as well as humans.
The human medication always seems to fail because humans and animals have different physiologies. Scientists have tried so hard to find the cure for cancer in mice but have failed. In order to find the right cure they need to use the right cells.” regardless of one’s feelings about animals, it is time for consumers and taxpayers to realize that animal testing waste hundreds of millions of dollars annually and produces and inferior product(Overton).” Some people might think that animal testing is good for many reasons.
In spite of that, some people believe that animal testing is not essential and it should be banned because animals are different from humans physically. In addition, they believe that animal tests are a waste of time and money and there are lower cost alternative methods and more effective. Our purpose of this essay is to prove that animal testing is important and has a lot of benefits and advantages for humanity. Using animals in medical and scientific experiments is necessary, because it finds many cures and treatments, animals bodies are almost similar to the human bodies, also it benefits the animals themselves from diseases.
Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed. These animals are killed in laboratories for testing. Before their deaths, they are burned, crippled, poisoned. In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are suffering from everything that is natural and important to them, they are forced to live in cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized. Animals who are used in experiments are treated like nothing more than disposable laboratory equipment.
Science researches believe that products which have been tested on animals will make humans’ life better. However, the main concern on this issue is that animals are suffering from unnecessary pain. Animals are mostly exposed to radiation, forced to inhale poisonous gases and injected with harmful substances prior to the experiment. Thus, animal testing should be banned because it is cruel, the result is unreliable and expensive.
Humans use many tests to check the reliability and safety of products such as medications and cosmetics, and specific types of testing use inhumane methods to produce results. Finding new medical treatments is extremely important, but sometimes people abuse their rights and resort to unnecessary and dangerous tactics to find solutions. Animal testing is a practice of brutality that is forced upon millions of animals worldwide. Out of all the reasons to explain why this practice is wrong, the most important has to be that it is cruel.
But on the same way, although animals are not straightly identical to humans, people can’t deny the fact that animal testing opened up to new possibilities and solutions that caused advancement to people’s lives. By further and continuous study about animals, through testing and experimenting, it added up to the scientific knowledge by means of basic biological research. It helps us understand how living things work, and apply it for the good of both humans and animals. Moreover, it also provides protection for the people. Testing on animals ensures that the environment and the people are safe from the harmful effects of specific chemicals.
Animal testing is a phrase that most people have heard but are perhaps still unsure of exactly what it involve. Whether it is called animal testing, experimentation or research, it should be defined as all testing methods on animals including, medical exploration, cosmetics, toxicology trialing, and psychological examination involving animal subjects. It is used to assess the safety and effectiveness of medications and beauty products as well as understanding how the human physiology works. While supporters believe it is necessary practice, those against animal testing believe that it involves torture and suffering to animals. Medical research is the hardest case of proposition in the debate whether animal testing should be banned or not, since it has previously yielded substantial benefits for humanity.
Over 61,000 dogs suffer in U.S laboratories every year. More than 21,000 cats are forced to endure painful experiments in U.S laboratories anually. Animals have been used repeatedly for scientific research throughout history. However, not all animal studies have been successful when humans were involved. Animal testing torments many innocent creatures for unreliable and costly research that is not necessary.
