Andrew Ure was big proponents of the factory system because he thought the conditions of laboring in factories was better and safer then work in agriculture or mining. In his praise of the Factory System he talks about how he had seen people of every age and gender barely working and able to feed themselves in the previous forms of labor. He believes that the Factory System protects its workers from the weather and offers those good wages and food. John Ruskin was a massive critic of the Factory System and the conditions that workers had to suffer.
