The most important thing that Andrew Jackson did during his time in office was the removal of a federal charter from the second bank of the United States of America. The Second Bank of the United States, though it is a private Bank, actually it is a government-funded monopoly that acts as a central Bank. After Jackson came to power, he clashed with the bank, which he said was "trying to kill me, but I will destroy it!” Despite congressional opposition, he used the Presidential powers to revoke the bank's privileges, leaving the banking system without a central bank. By 1834, Jackson had essentially paid off all of national debt. This is the first time and the only time in American history of any modern power that it paid off the national debt. In order to do this, he mandated to raise tariffs; on the other hand, he ruthlessly cuts in spending, especially in large Numbers on civilian facilities such as road
During the revolutionary war, America paid her citizens who supplied for the military with notes. These notes represented actual money that would be repaid in full to all note-owners once America’s treasury had recovered. This caused problems after the war because many of these notes were bought by investors for a fraction of their face value. These notes became so prominent that the states soon owed over 50 percent of their post-war debt to American citizens. Andrew ¨Old Hickory¨ Jackson was the President Of The United States that immediately followed John Quincy Adams. Jackson´s two term lasted from 1829 to 1837. He was an interesting child in his youth at the age of 13 he joined the Continental army. He continued a military career for the majority of his life he also had a political career but this isn't what made him arguably the most popular president in American history ,It was his military career and what he attempted to stand for even though he wasn't perfect that did that, he started as a poor man and as a military commander, he never forced his men to endure more than he would put himself through he even went so far as to eat cattle waste and acorns with his men, and during the Battle of New Orleans he led from
When Jackson chose to eliminate the National Bank he had what was best for him on his mind and not what was best for the United States. The second National Bank was established in 1816 and had a charter set to expire in twenty years. The bank became very powerful and was good for the U.S. economy, “...it was the only bank permitted to have offices across the nation... The Bank of the United States also printed the country’s paper money” (Ember). Having these responsibilities, the bank became a very important part of the economy.
President Jackson spent a lot of his two terms attempting to devastate the National Bank, which had been sanctioned by Congress in 1816 as a national place for a monetary arrangement. Jackson felt that the bank was uncalled for imposing the business model and that it mishandled or may manhandle its critical power. Jackson put it all on the line to crush the bank, a campaign that just about expense him the administration in 1834 and earned him an official reprimand by the Senate. Regardless, by 1837, he had ended the bank by withdrawing federal deposits from it. For the duration of his life, Jackson was scrutinized for his unfaltering conclusions and despotic way, yet he in any case substantiated himself a sharp and mindful lawmaker.
