Over the past few decades, we've seen many gender equality movements fighting for equal pay for women. However, the sports field is often overlooked in the fight. There are fewer professional female athletes, and female athletes tend to make less than their male counterparts, something I strongly disagree with. There’s a common factor such as male athletes get much better times in track events. Another example is, the men’s world record in the 100m is 9.58s and the women’s record is 10.47s. If men perform so much better, shouldn’t they be paid based on quality? In athletics, a professional woman often competes on the same level as high school or college men. Take ice hockey as an example, there are both men's and women's events at the Winter …show more content…
But this can’t happen due to not enough sponsorships and viewers, Women cannot control the way their body is built. If the fastest woman in the world can run the 100m dash in 10.59 seconds, then obviously that is their max. Women have yet to beat this record, so it's evident that no matter how much they train, women can't increase their speed much more due to their body anatomy. It isn't a controlled issue. Therefore, their pay should not be based on such a factor. A difference in sport performance can also have to do with the anatomy of a muscle. The physiological characteristics but size does differ performance and growth. Muscle fibre between a male and female athlete's body do not vary significantly. However, the difference comes in the response to training. Most muscle is stimulated by the release of testosterone and androgen. Due to women having higher estrogen levels, this means women have more body fat than men, 8% for women and 4% for men. So this means there muscle growth isn’t as much as men, but thee joints are more flexible. Testosterone helps men get larger skeletal muscles, and also have larger hearts. Testosterone also increases the production of red blood cells, which therefore absorb more oxygen and giving men a greater aerobic advantage. (how do men and women differ athletically, …show more content…
People should be asking why fans and sponsors are less interested in supporting women’s sports. This is because again there aren’t enough sponsors and viewers. Female attributes come into this as well, women do not have the excitement men bring to sports, such as soccer, basketball, hockey etc. when a sport is more exciting that is what attracts the viewers, which then therefore attracts more money and
Women have been playing basketball alongside men since the beginning of basketball. They have played physical and hard games, just like men, but women are still paid incredibly low. Although WNBA players do not draw as large of crowds as men, women who play in the WNBA should be given an increase in the amount they are paid because women can be just as skilled as men who play basketball, and they are not paid enough despite being professional athletes. WNBA players deserve a higher paycheck because women who play professional basketball have the same skill and capability as men. For example, there have even been women drafted into the NBA because they had the same level of skill as NBA players.
Most men that like women want women but underestimate their abilities. Most people believe that women are not good at sports as men. Women completed the same accomplishments and more just as men. Men and women not get the same pay amount ever since President Nixon signed law title 9 in 1972 ( Title IX and the growth of women’s Athletics). Nowadays women plays every sport that men play.
Major football and basketball programs are the only ones which make millions of dollars every year. So, only football and basketball players from major programs deserve to get paid, but this is not fair. It would be unreasonable to the other athletes to only pay football and basketball players because they put in just as much work as football and basketball players. All sports programs have a similar schedule, and they are all demanding.
Clearly, this is why the WNBA should get paid as much as men do. A second reason why the WNBA should get paid more is that women’s sports don’t get as nearly as
College athletes deserve to be paid for their dedication to sports. There has been huge controversy over this and it is considered to be one of the most debatable topics in sports. Inequality in sports has been shown in many ways. This includes women inequity, racial inequality, and coaches being paid more depending on what sport they coach. College athletes should be compensated for their work and be given rights.
Have you ever wondered how large a WNBA salary is, well the WNBA players don’t get paid nearly as much as the NBA players? The amount WNBA players are getting paid compared to NBA players is known as the gender wage gap. The WNBA athletes should be paid as much as the NBA athletes whereas, the WNBA doesn’t pay their players more than 22.8% of their revenue, the difference between the minimum mens salary is $415,593 dollars more than the maximum women salary they are pro athletes too and just they’re women doesn’t mean they should be paid less. You may have heard of the gender wage gap if you haven't well it is the gap between men and women's salary.
This pay difference can discourage the girls that want to become professional athletes. Thus, limiting the sports available for women to play and places to play in. Professional female athletes should be paid the same amount as professional male athletes because women should have equal representation and pay as the men, women are just as successful in sports as the men, and the best players are getting paid by foreign leagues to not
It is evident that equality and equity between genders, males and females, has had its struggles. This struggle to promote fairness has been expressed through various mouvements such as from the suffragettes emerging in the late 20th and early 21st century, and the recent He for She movement to bring both genders to work together as one. Despite these efforts, in the hockey world, male domination inhibits female athletic success to reach such high level. This is displayed through history, funds and media. Earlier times imposed that women work less on their athleticism.
Women in sports can compete the same, and sometimes even stronger, as men so their pay should just be as much as them, and the gender pay gap shouldn’t be present. If both sexes play the exact same sport, why do they have different fiscal values? Many female athletes are equally talented compared to men so they should at least get paid the same. “The U.S. women’s team will get a $2 million bonus for winning the FIFA Women 's World Cup. A lot of money to you and me, yes.
Why are women in sports being paid less than men? In the past, women didn’t have the same rights as men because they were seen as less than or property. Now women have more opportunities however they are still facing the same problems like with money. Women in sports are not respected as men and it’s happening everywhere around the world. If women are paid the same as men everyone will be equal.
Despite the many efforts to break gender define boundaries, the media is the ultimate deciding factor. Women who are in sports are not being covered as equally as men in sports, and when they are, females are being depicted negatively and their athletic abilities are insignificant in
It would be unfair to pay college football players and not athletes of other sports especially women’s sports. In a interview with SEC coaches, we find out their perspectives on whether athletes should be paid to play or not. According to Coach Mark Richt, college football is a big business, "It 's a big business because there 's a passionate fan base.” “Some college coaches make as much or more as coaches in the NFL, which begs the age old question: Should college athletes be paid to play?”
Sports should not be based on whether you are more interested in girls or guys sports; it should be based on which sport brings in more revenue and has the most participation
Gender Inequality in sports is an issue as old as sport itself. I choose this topic because we as a society seem to sweep it under the rug time after time. Women in sports however, try to address the issue only to have it go on deaf ears, leaving them to continue in the sport hoping something will change. Over the last few decades, strides have been made, but he sport remains an institution dominated by men. These women, whether they are in sport or in the business world, want a fair chance to be on the same level as their male counterparts.
With the different sex comes different levels, like males skill level is a lot higher than womens skill level, and males get the bigger audience than females do and men are all over the television
