Family is one of the biggest impact on people's lives in numerous ways. They help to teach each other perseverance even in the toughest times. In the novel Sold by Patricia McCormick, young Lakshmi did not have her family in person with her at the Happiness House, but she had them in her thoughts constantly. It was these thoughts that allowed her to keep going even when nothing was what she thought it would be.

In the beginning we learned what are cultures were like and we didn’t learn anything else about the other culture. This allowed us to feel comfortable. When we are comfortable, in any situation, we don’t like to adventure out or try new things. Because of this we feel secure with the identity we have in our culture.

I think it is a matter of history repeating itself, or in other words, learned behavior from past cultures, as well as difference in the ways of communication, and customs. Marguerite was always kinda of lost and selfish at times, and never look at how others seen things. But as the story goes on Marguerite starts to find herself and understand others. “Graduation” isn’t just about how Marguerite pass on to the next grade but how she has grown from a lost girl to a young intelligence woman.
