Did the American Revolution really change society? Would this fight for independence even be considered a Revolution? The American Founding lasted for twenty five years from 1775-1800. During that time, the United States declared and won its independence, a gradual revolution in the political, social, and economic landscape was begun that was not completed by 1800. Some noticeable steps were made to create a revolution. The Americans stood their ground against the British loyalists, granted religious freedoms to citizens, and took a stand against the abusement of the government. The Americans were still at war with Britain for independence, but there were still loyalists among them. The Americans wanted the British loyalists out because they didn’t want them corrupting their freedom. “- Send them to the island of Britain; there let them drink the cup of slavery and eat the bread of bitterness all the days of their existence-”(Doc B). They took their stand against Britain by leaving, and did not allow any of them to remain in their independent society. In 1786, the General Assembly enacted that no one should be forced to comply in any religious worship. They also enacted that everyone has the right to display, and allege their opinions in religion. “...But that all men …show more content…
According to the Native Americans, the United States had intentions to restore peace between them, the Native Americans, and the British. In conclusion, the war only granted peace to the British and the United States. “It is now more than three years since peace was made between the King of Great Britain and you, but we, the Indians, were disappointed, finding ourselves not included in that peace… you held separate treaties and have entirely neglected our plan of having a general conference with the different nations of the confederacy”(Doc
The reason why the colonist declared independence from Great Britain was because of unfair taxes. There was other cause factor of why the colonist wanted freedom but taxes were the beginning of the American revolution. Great Britain was in debt due to the Seven-Years war. They started to impose new taxes and policy on the colonist so they can also help Britain pay off their debt. Great Britain impose different policies, the Stamp act 1765 which imposed taxes on stamps needed for official documents, Townshend Revenue act 1767 which taxes glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea, and the Tea Act 1773 which taxes tea.
How the colonists responded when faced with difficulty has greatly altered the path of their country. In 1760 a new king , King George III, came into power and brought destruction with jim when he began passing act after outrageous act which sparked a need for rebellion among the colonies. Did the colonists have valid reason to break away from great Britain? The colonists were justified in their actions because the king was a tyrant, they were being forced into silence, and they encountered unprovoked violence. King George III was constantly abusing his power over the colonists and acting irrationally.
In 1789, the first shots that marked the start of the French Revolution were fired. The French Revolution did not occur on a whim, for the nation’s instability had been a growing problem throughout the years leading up to it. The overall cause of the revolution is deeply rooted in France’s economic problems, failed attempts at reform, and the antiquated social system that stood in place: the Old Regime. Internal problems that arose because of the Old Regime were a large cause of the French Revolution. The Old Regime was made up of three estates.
There are many debates that post to the French and Indian War, the colonist progressed a filling emotion of "division" from the Britain Crown and that is why they were more Pro-America and felt hate for the English. This pure emotion quickened right after fighting broke out; but it t’was not the actual justification the colonists rebelled in the first place. The reason the redcoats lost is due to the fact that King George III and Parliament schemed their way into a military stand-off with the thirteen colonies, when a gov’t based solution would've been less expensive in the long run and much more efficient in keeping the loyalty of some American colonists. Had the British gov’t payed attention to some of its prideful members, who taught the art of respect and bring into agreement our English kin in the thirteen colonies," the war could have been out of the question and avoided. This was not situation that played out to be, however, some British Tories didn’t mind.
The French Revolution was from 1789 through 1799. The French Revolution had many bad causes to it and many people hated it. The french people had many good reasons to revolt on such as unequal tax burdens, they had financial crisis, and they also had a weak monarchy which brought many problems. Having the French Revolution changed France in many ways.
The French Revolution had began during the 1789. There are many examples that was part of the result during the French revolution. One being was that King Louis the XVI was an abusive ruler and uses his power as an advantage. There were also three estates, they're divided into the clergy, nobles, and the middle class or the peasants. During this time, the political, social and economic conditions in France was corrupted and eventually the third estate rebelled.
The American Revolution is arguably the turning point of American history as it resulted in somewhat of a significant, positive change in politics, economics, and society as a whole. However, from 1775 to 1800, the effects of the revolution on the American society were subtle as most principles glorified by revolutionists contradicted the examples set forth by colonial reality. Perhaps most alike to revolutionary beliefs was the American economy and how it participated in free trade or encouraged the independence of hard labor. Politically, the states did apply Enlightenment and republican ideas as promised, but more often than not, the benefits of such ideas were limited to rich, land-owning, protestant, white men. This glorification of
The most important cause of the Democratic Revolutions of the seventeen-seventy's and the eighteen-ten’s was political because the people did not have a voice in the government. Before the French Revolution, France was ruled by monarchies. Kings and queens ruled France and had the power of its people. For example, in the article of the “ French Revolution” it states that during their ruling time, they enjoyed his power by using the “ Letter de Cachet” to arrest innocent people. As well, they did not care about their citizens.
American Revolution Some historians believe that American Colonists were in the wrong to start the American Revolution. “To this day, now over two hundred years later, the reasons behind this abrupt transition of England and its American colonies from allies to enemies are debated.” . I believe that the American colonists made the right decision on seperating from Britain because of the new tax acts imposed, Boston Massacre, and Intolerable Acts. In 1763 the Americans won a 7 Year War alongside Britain against France.
There was tension, blood, and tears with the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain. This was due to the American Revolution that started in 1765 and ended in 1783. So how revolutionary was the American revolutionary war? Well, first what does revolutionary mean? Revolutionary means that things have changed dramatically.
The term “Revolutionary” is an instantaneous change or shift that promotes equal rights, liberty, and freedom. So, while some may argue that the revolution was a turning point for America, The American revolution in this case is not revolutionary since slavery was still present, minority groups did not gain rights, and British ideals and tactics were still being used in the new government. One of the crucial pieces of evidence that this “revolution” could not be considered revolutionary is because of the slavery still taking place even after the war ended. Throughout the revolt against British rule in the 16th century, the American people fought under the banner of truth, justice, and liberty for all people, However, the only people that indeed
The American Revolution was caused by the changes in Britain and not by social change in America. American colonists had a clear reluctance to fight and separate from Britain as seen in such documents as the Olive Branch Petition and the Declaration of Independence. Many American writers expressed regret or melancholy over their separation from the British. Many historians debate whether or not the American Revolution was actually a revolution. A revolution is known as an upheaval of a society (for example the French, or Russian revolutions).
American Revolution DBQ The American Revolution changed American society politically, socially, and economically, as the American colonists overcame their differences and broke away from British rule. During the American revolution, Americans began to develop different political views than that of their European counterparts. Following the Revolution, the Americans created a new type of national government, a republic.
The main difference between the American and French Revoultion was that one successfully converted to a democratic government and one did not. The French Revolution was not successful in forming a democratic government due to France’s history of a monarchy, economic issues and divison among its’ people. Unlike America, France had a long history of sole rulers and dictatorship which made the change to a democratic government much more difficult and ultimately impossible. America’s motto of “all men are created equal” (Doc A) was the complete opposite of France’s dividing estate class system. The third estate consisted of peasents, common people and the bourgeoisie, the second estate belonged to the Nobles, and the first was the home to the Clergy.
Soon after the Seven Years’ War, the British and the colonists learned that victory came with a rather expensive price (Kennedy, Cohen, & Bailey, 2010). Great Britain tightened its grip on the colonies in North America, expecting colonists to pay for their financial struggles. In order to make colonists pay for the war, Great Britain reminded the North American colonies who had authority by controlling the colonists to submit to various ordinances ratified by British Parliament. This action only showed that arrogance leads to rebellion socially, economically, and politically. Socially, a lack of communication between Great Britain and the North American colonies was to blame for the Revolutionary War.
