When I first stumbled upon this scholarship from the American Legion, I knew right away that I wanted to apply for it because of the similarities between what the American Legion and what I both stand for. I few words that I would use to describe the American Legion and myself would be, service, integrity, and hard work. These are a few things that I take very seriously and attempt to involve in my life everyday. I pride myself on these high character traits and try to use them in my community, during sporting events, at home, and at my school. I also implement these traits while fulfilling my civic duties by doing service around my community. Some of these services involve, the 20 hours of service I am required to do each year to graduate …show more content…
I enjoy outdoor sports/activities, such as, trapshooting, hunting, and fishing just with my family or friends. More competitively I also play varsity basketball, football, track, baseball at my high school and have succeeded in receiving many honors while playing these sports in the past years. But these awards and accolades are not the true reason why I love and enjoy sports so much. This past summer I had the privilege to coach and ref a youth league at my high school with hundreds of future Wahlert students and hopeful basketball players. It was really cool for me to do this because I remember being a kid in the camp when I was younger and looked up to the varsity players coaching like they were gods almost. This experience made me realize that I impact and I am a role model in so many children's lives and I try to live my life in a positive manner knowing that there are others people watching me like them. Some other ways that I use my athletic leadership as a platform in my civic involvement is in football we can volunteer at places like Hills and Dales or in track we have a service day when we go out to the other Holy Family schools and do yard work/ helps clean around the
In every soldier 's heart, it’s just as cold and sad as the snow around them. General George Washington took thousands of men across the Delaware River to Valley Forge which was eighteen miles from Philadelphia, in which the men wait. But Washington needs men to fight. And winter is coming brutal and with no mercy, are you going to stay and fight? Or leave to go back to a normal life?
My husband and I coached teams and took them to tournaments everywhere. After I was done my school life I was a part of accreditation committee for BIA schools. I served on this committee for about 44 years until I retired. I still have loved ones who are alive and well today such as my son, cousins, and grandchildren. I wish I were still there with them and with the schools to help them, but maybe after hearing this you will go out and do something for your community.
The standards of a Sterling Scholar, scholarship, citizenship and leadership have been exemplified in the way I have conducted my life through the following examples. I have never really excelled in academics. I believe learning the information is far more important than getting a good grade. Math, Science, and English are not my strong suits, but I’ve always loved working with computers. From a young age I’ve always been fascinated with technology and how it helps us advance as a society.
I was an Infantry Medic with the 101st Airborne Division out of Fort Cambbell. After 2 tours in Afghanistan, I was medically retired with a few injuries. I taught myself graphic illustration as a means of theraphy and started creating digital art. After a request for a custom stormtrooper cardback, this hobby took off.
As a junior in high school, I was inducted into the National Honor Society for doing exceptionally well in my academic endeavors and actively participating in volunteer events. My contributions through this organization have made a significant impact on both my personal development and my community’s support services. The numerous volunteer projects in which I have participated have prepared me to continue helping others in the future. Through projects such as building houses from the ground-up with Habitat for Humanity, I have developed teamwork skills, discovered my management potential, and increased my social network, all while working to provide services for less fortunate individuals in my community. Some
By volunteering at my local church and helping with local service projects, I have realized the commitment and perseverance it takes to lead by example. At my local church I continue to help with the organization of my youth group. After speaking at church staff meetings for several months we made it our goal to improve the youth group by ensuring that children and teens of all ages were included and had an opportunity to participate. I was able to create a system where teens who attended high school were paired with a middle school individual of the church. This provided a sense of inclusiveness and made the youth group more enjoyable for everyone.

I would be honored to be a recipient of the Seaman High School Historical Society Scholarship. I want to be a recipient of this scholarship because I would like to be remembered as being a student that attended and graduated from this great school district. I think it is extremely important to preserve the history of USD 345, it 's students, graduates, faculty and administration. I believe it is important to create and maintain a permanent display of photographs, yearbooks, school newspapers, as well as any other significant or important memorabilia. It 's always nice to know that the legacy of myself and my classmates will always be remembered, not only for myself but for my family, my children, my grandchildren, my great
My project is going to help my local American Legion Post in creating an area in where the legion members (veterans) can talk and socialize. This project is going to consist of installing a barbecue system and beautifying the area around the barbecue system. Also, it is imperative that the area around the barbecue looks nice aswell. Some of the tasks for beautification include : Painting a concrete wall found in the back of the eating area.
I don’t really enjoy picking fights, or committing any acts of violence. Truthfully, if I got into any type of conflict, my lanky body would probably give up on me halfway. That’s what my wife told me after I said I was going to be joining the US armed forces. “Mark, are you an idiot? You can’t even walk without limping, how will you serve our country?!”
The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest attainable in the Boy Scouts of America and on average only four percent of scouts ever earn this achievement. I’m writing to you all about when I earned mine, fellow classmates, to enable all of you to know me and my values better. I earned my Eagle Scout rank on June 23, 2016, just managing to finish all the necessary requirements and paperwork less than a week before my eighteenth birthday. However, a scout will not be able to receive the Eagle Scout rank if they are unable to complete all the necessary requirements and submit the proper paperwork before they turn eighteen as that is when scouts “age out” of the organization. However, even had I not been able to obtain my Eagle I can still say I learn
I’ve always loved any sport and they’ve always been such a big part of my life. My parents have always pushed me to try my best and give it my all every single game. Between softball, basketball, volleyball, and track I was always participating in a sport. There was never really a time in my childhood that I wasn’t playing games or practicing. However, my freshman year I decided that I needed to stick with one sport and focus on becoming my best.
I’m involved with many sports outside of school. For example, I play Field Hockey, Lacrosse, and
Throughout my middle school athletic career, I was a very dedicated volleyball player. I played all year around and spent most of my free time practicing and taking private lessons in order to better myself before it came time to try out at the high school level. After all of my hard work and dedication did not pay off and I was denied an invitation to join the high school team, I had to quickly find an alternative way to get involved. I had always been on a sports team and was unsure I would be able to survive without being on one to keep me busy. My friend, who was a year older than me in school, urged me to join the high school cross country team.
At Franklin High School sports are taken very seriously and being a five foot three senior it’s not as easy to make the school’s teams anymore for sports such as basketball and volleyball. So when I wasn’t able to play for my school I decided to join a church league where I could still play. I became a co-captain of the team as well as called most of the plays and even learned some great leadership skills. My coach did not have much experience coaching basketball and was only coaching because the team needed one.
