In the 1790s, the first Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton and fellow Federalists wanted to protect the United State's economic future through several different means; namely, the creation of a national bank, maintaining good financial credit, and by developing a lasting economic system. The United States was in turmoil, still rebuilding from their recent detachment from Britain. The United States government was in shambles, its economy arguably in an even worse one. It was for that reason that president George Washington elected Alexander Hamilton to develop a sound economic plan for the United States. Hamilton and his fellow Federalists had many ideas for improving the economy; however, the Republicans or Anti-Federalists, were disinclined to agree with their federalist counterparts due to opposing views on government authority.

Although it can be argued that Thomas Jefferson’s government policies were better than Alexander Hamilton’s, Hamilton, overall, had the better policy because of his persistence to progress, his federalist beliefs, and his understanding of the issues with Jefferson’s trust in the common man’s morals. Thomas Jefferson can be described as a leader who lived in the present*, whereas Alexander Hamilton had his vision set on the future of the country. He saw America’s strength lying in its commerce, and saw industry, trade, and manufacturing as forces of progression. Alexander Hamilton was a federalist at the time, and he set out to expand the national government power. This would allow states “to retain their rights and individuality”. But hamilton didn’t think of his version of government without inspiration from the British. He believed that it was the best form of government at the time, “consisted of a strong monarch, an assembly of aristocrats called the House of Lords, and another assembly of commoners called the House of Commons.” This system allowed the people to participate in government via representation in Parliament.

The Federalist Papers were essays written in 1787 by Alexander Hamilton who collaborated with James Madison and John Jay. The Federalist Papers defended the newly drafted constitution and explained how the constitution was a upgrade from the Articles of confederation. These papers were originally published using the pen name Publius in the Newspaper before the names of the writers were released. These papers were written to the people of New York to sway them in ratifying the Constitution. Hamilton was responding to antifederalist who had claimed that absence of the Bill of Rights and a powerful Judiciary would bring oppression to the people. Hamilton argued that Judiciary was a weak branch of government compared to Executive and Legislature because it lacked an army to command and would only react to what the two branches of the government had proposed. I disagree with the statement by Alexander Hamilton that judiciary is the weakest branch of the government, maybe at that time it could have been viewed as so, but its power has increased through several amendments (Jellum, 2008). The Congress creates law, for example, they created the National Prohibition in the 1920s, and the president executes the laws by ensuring all the laws passed by the Congress are implemented.

Something as vast and great as the United States of America could never have come about because of one man or one group. This required the amazing effort of many people and organizations that would ultimately create one of the most unique and greatest empires to ever grace the earth. One of these would be the Federalists Party. The Federalists party advocated for a more unified government and more government regulation that would help shape the country and leave a lasting impression. Alexander Hamilton along with James Madison and John Jay developed 85 essays in support of ratifying the constitution that appeared in newspapers and were eventually gathered as a book under the pen name Publius and was called The Federalist in 1788.

Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson were two different people with two very different views and opinions. Jefferson thought everything Hamilton tried doing to put America on a path of greatness, was a step onto a road to ruin. One of the big, controversial issues they disagreed on was the economy; the dispute was over whether manufacturing or agriculture should be the main source to increase the nation’s revenue. Economy is very important to a nation’s success, so both men felt very strongly on this topic. The Federalist, who’s most influential leader was Alexander Hamilton, believed in expanding the economy’s income from just agriculture to manufacturing, trade, and business.

Each one had their own view of how to do this, but it was a main goal of both politicians. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father and leader of the Federalist party. Hamilton wanted America to be just like Great Britain. He believed that in the best interest for the country, the government should be run by elite people with lots of money. Hamilton was The United States Secretary of Treasury, during this time, and proposed many of his reform ideas to Congress.
