Ageing is multidimensional change involving the physical, social as well as psychological aspects for an individual. Old age is generally an irreversible process, chronological, and a universal phenomenon and a challenge to everyone, who reaches it irrespective of sex, economic background, social background, race, ethnicity, profession, occupation, religion, skill or learning. Age can be also described as a progressive decline of the physical and mental function resulting in a simultaneous decline in both the capacity of body to maintain physiological balance as well as adaptability of the individuals to various stresses there by consequently increasing the chances of illness and mortality ( Marpady &et al, 2012) Neetu (2013) put aging by citing Becker (1959) as a complex process which includes anatomical, physiological, psychological and even social and economic changes. Randhawa (1987) stated aging by citing Becker (1959) in that ageing consists of two simultaneous components anabolic building up and catabolic breaking down. In the middle years there is an essential balance between expansion and decay, while growth predominates in youth; degenerative changes which start occurring very clearly in life pre-dominate in the late life span. Aging is a biological process through which every human being gone through regardless of any ground. Aging can be described as the process of growing old and is an intricate part of the life cycle. It is inevitable and irreversible process.
Physical – Senescence, which is biological ageing, causes deterioration of bodily functions. These declines obviously differ from individual to individual but generally they include; Lower energy levels Less flexibility in the skin and emergence of wrinkles and brown spots Thinning and greying of hair Declining eye sight and hearing ability Height and weight loss Slower reflexes Weakening muscle strength Some aspects can’t be predicted but have a major effect on physical well-being like strength of immune system, nutritional intake and whether the person has a minor or serious illness or physical disability. Ageing is something that can be split up into many groups like aa variety of things in society. Older people can be categorized into the young-old, the middle-old and, the old-old. That last one seems ridiculous to me. People in each of these groups are generally happier in this time period rather that the previous one because the United states has given the resources for us to be more prepared for aging. Also nowadays people can start planning for their retirements before they even think about getting old.
Aging is a journey one which leads to really find and become comfortable with our true selves. As I age and as I watch my grandmother age, I have realized that time has a way of changing people. What think was impossible to conquer becomes possible over time. The material possessions that we once value just become small things. What matters the most is family and our faith.
Morrie explains in the quote how he looks at aging as an opportunity. Most people are afraid of death and aging as far as what I do now. Morrie sees aging as a accomplishment ,such as a milestone instead of a down fall. Some people die young which is a terrible site, but with aging comes mishaps like not being able to do things yourself needing an assistant. Most people aren 't happy when their not able to walk , take baths , are even cook for themselves.
A physical development in middle adulthood is about all situations of the gradual changes under way in early adulthood. The vision, hearing, skin and muscle, fat makeup make a change each one has different changes in each person, but no all persons has the same change or in the same age everybody has different reactions. The middle adulthood is a difficult situation for some people because last physical the most important things in their life, the vision can lost for the work, diseases. The haring also can be a changes can lost all the hearing or just partial,
In the United States; we have an aging society. An aging society is when the median age of a country increases due to rising life expectancy and declining fertility rates. In the year of 2050, the number of older people will increase by a substantial amount. Mostly, it would cause a major impact on my time as an adult and during my entirement years. It will also impact on others future by family, economics, government, and religion.
With the undeniable truth, everyone must age and grow older. Although this is a natural process of life, not everyone is accepting of this. At this age, being an older adult you face difficulties such as aging, sexuality, relationship dynamics and having to face reality that you are not in your prime as you once were. Heart attacks, strokes, and other ailments are examples of this. However, just as there younger counterparts they still able to do somethings they were able to do in their earlier stages.
Aging is a way to express that you’re maturing as Morrie saw it. I personally fear aging because once you get old, you can’t do your daily activities. I’m an athlete, and once I get older, I won’t be able to jump as high to hit the ball, or get as low to dig the ball. While talking to
Regarding the issue of “aging”, there have been several theoretical perspectives that address the issue of the growing number of elderly in our society. Social gerontologists study aging and the elderly, and recently, this has grown in importance as the elderly have become the fastest growing segment of the population. Aging is the combination of biological, psychological, and social processes that affect people as they grow older, yet these biological, psychological, and social processes are not the same and may vary considerably within and across cultures. Beginning with functionalism, which was brought about in the 19th century by Comte and Durkheim, it emphasized large-scale social institutions and processes. It focused on understanding the role or contribution of some event, activity or institution to the working of society as a whole, not individuals.
(Weiss, 2012). As a majority of our population ages, ageism becomes a growing problem
Also,Hayflick does not have knowlege why cells die during late adulthood. Hormonal Stress Theory is the aging in the body’s hormonal system that increases the late adulthood of having diseases. As people age, their immune system decreases which give risk to infectious diseases. From all these theories, they do not explain the aging
An elderly person is most likely considered to be 65 years of age, or older. According to the World Health Organization, “the number of people today aged 60 and over has doubled since 1980.” Elderly people can often face new challenges as they age, including declines in both physical and mental function. As J.W. Beattie describes, some signs of physical decline include “increasing difficulty in the dark, increasing liability to falls…and increasing reduction of mobility long before any real infirmity may arise,” and signs of mental decline may be found “in accuracy of judgment…in reaction time, in performance time…in the ability to retrain without previous allied experience, and in the ability to learn new material of various kinds.” Other challenges that the elderly face are going into retirement, experiencing feelings of loneliness, and accepting their mortality.
Late Adulthood is the stage of the human life cycle where an individual nears the end of their life. The life expectancy in the United States has slowly increased over the years therefore allowed many to further analyze the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development during late adulthood. The stage of late adulthood has been emphasized by ageism and the stereotypical "old" person but, will be further educated by the normative development of the life cycle of late adulthood. For the “old” experience dramatic changes in their development as they face loss, death, and illness.
With the rapid increasing of the oldest-old population and the appearing of a series of aging problems, many studies have been explored by modern people. They want to know the ways to keep longer life. In another words, what is promoting the length of their lives? Through the study on aging, we can know that the life expectancy is also referred to economical conditions of oldest –old. If they are poor, they will have a lower life expectancy that those same age people who are rich.
