Adversity is having difficulties or a misfortune, people have misfortune if they can not afford education, food or other things that people need in life. The Sniper by Liam O’Flaherty is about a man who was scouting for the enemy and was wounded, later he was shot in the forearm and killed the enemy, while he was walking away he realized he had killed his brother. Trouble with Geniuses, Part II by Malcolm Gladwell was about a young man named Chris Langan who was a very gifted man who was offered a full scholarship to Reed University but failed to sign up. But did not let the adversity take him down. Adversity is in a lot of stories, it is also in these two stories. That is how adversity could be overcome. “He broke the neck of the iodine bottle and let the bitter fluid drip into the wound. A paroxysm of pain swept through him”(O’Flaherty 3). The part of the story is when the sniper gets wounded in the forearm. His arm felt like it is dead, he is not able to move, but he still put iodine to let the bitter fluid drip into his wound. He wanted to strive for his arm to get better and so it was able to move. “Then I lost that scholarship My mother was supposed to fill out a parents financial statement for the renewal of that scholarship” (Gladwell 38). He had to drop out of the college because he was basically forced to. He was trying to look for other deductions and other jobs, he actually found another college but one day he was going to the college and his car broke down which led him to miss his classes and the college told him it was better for him to just drop out. He was still searching for other things. He wanted to strive for other things, not letting him learn did not let him down. A quality is determination and ambition mostly, it helps go for the things wanted and to not give up. Determination will not let people give up and keep trying until they get the thing
