Adolescent Changes: Indirect Bullying In High School

This does not only include Madera High staff, yet school staff should start to pay more attention to who they think may be in trouble because school is basically a student 's second home and spend most of their time there. This is why school teachers have a big role in this. Based on this survey students think that the staff is not really of much help when in reality they should feel that they can seek help in them because teachers have a sense of authority and if the students trusted in the staff to tell them what is going on they could do something to maybe halt or change the course of how the bully impacts the student and end the problem or even yet a little advice on the part of the staff on what would be the right thing to do never hurts. Some text to defend my claim is “Dealing with feelings of school safety, and specifically addressing school bullying.” The text also says that 90% of students in grades 4-8 report being harassed or bullied.” This shows that you need to report bullying when you see it and stick up for people and yourself. Also, this shows that most of the kids in school get bullied in grades 4-8. That's why kids need to be courageous and take when they see it to tell a trusted adult.

Later School Start Times “About 90% of the teens, problem is insufficient sleep” (Dr. Chen), most of the adolescents are suffering of sleep deprived which is unabling them to be healthy and pay attention in class. Many of the schedules that are given in schools are the worst for teens because one one the things they require them to do is to wake up early to attend to the classes. Middle and High School start times should start later because it will benefit students academic growth, and improve health . Starting school times later will make teen have an academic growth. Starting school later could help teens academically because, they would be more attentive to any work or test that comes their way.

“...Teens to show up to class before 8 a.m. start time beginning is not good for their health or their report cards.” This was once stated by scientists. Many schools in Seattle believe that later start times in schools will lead to better grades on report cards. Associated Press has written an article called “More zzz’s can lead to more A’s: Seattle schools move start time for teens” to inform people about what is going on in Seattle about the later start times in schools.

Starting school later can actually improve your learning, health and even your attitude and all of that can be changed by just starting school at 8:30AM. Kids don't start taking in information until 8:30AM because that is when the brain starts to really work. According to National sleep foundation ¨ teenagers are naturally inclined to stay up later and get up later in the morning.¨ ¨Starting school at 8:30 improves a student's chance of success,¨ according to the (National sleep foundation). Not only do teens want to sleep more, but sleeping more actually improves their health.

Researcher Paul Kelley from the University of Oxford in England says that adolescents experience a change in their biological clocks. As a result, they naturally fall asleep later in the morning.” Achieve 3000 writes. This piece of evidence can support the fact that later schools start times can be beneficial for teens because they have changes in their biological clocks they tend to wake up later and if schools start later more teens may arrive on time.

I say that it’s human nature, and you can’t fix that. As such, the current attempt at stopping bullying is not, and will not, work. What we need to do, is cut down our efforts. We have a lot of efforts, but that doesn’t mean that they’re good.

Ever since anyone can remember, school has started at around 7:30 am or earlier, and around 80% of schools in America start before 8:00 (Education Degree). Recently many studies have shown that school starting before 8:30 am is actually negatively affecting students. During your teenage years your body is making a lot of changes which causes your melatonin to change and that will cause your body to want to stay up later. When you mix late nights with early school times, students will not get the full 9 hours of sleep and many students end up deprived of the sleep they desperately need. This is causing grades to go down, depression, inactivity in daily life, and it’s even causing students to start drinking, smoking, or doing harmful drugs.

Often times bullying occurs when adults are not around, which makes it one student’s word against another. In addition, the lack of clear and consistent policy and procedures in schools compounds the ethical dilemma of bullying for educators.
