Doctors and nurses were forced to work long hours while suffering from severe emotional trauma, a fact that Fink does not discount in her assessment of their decision-making processes.

Principle theme Five days at Memorial by Sheri Fink tells the story of the days after Hurricane Katrina at one hospital in New Orleans. Memorial hospital owned by Texas based Tenet corporation had 312 short term acute care (STAC) beds, and leased the seventh floor to Lifecare for a long term acute care (LTAC) hospital. Lifecare’s LTAC at Memorial cared for medically fragile patients with long term complex medical needs. The hospital and health care providers received intense scrutiny after the hurricane due to the higher numbers of dead patients in comparison to comparable New Orleans hospitals, out of the 34 patients which died at the facility, 24 were Lifecare patients.

Human nature dictates that every action, no matter how selfless it appears, is inspired by a selfish reason. This meant that over two hundred patients were still in the building and even more staff when Katrina hit. Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink explores what happened inside the hospital during the aftermath of the storm and the legal battles that persisted long after the week people were trapped inside the building.

This definition of friendship is evident in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The novella takes place during the Great Depression, a time when seeing two guys travelling around together like George and Lennie is rare. Homecoming by Cynthia Voigt is a realistic fiction book in which the theme of overcoming adversity and family are shown. Homecoming takes place in rural Connecticut sometime in the late 1960's. When their mother abandons them the Tillerman children must find a new home. Homecoming tells their journey to Bridgeport Connecticut and what they find there. Dicey, the main character, portrays many boy-like physical traits and displays the personality traits of perseverance, loyalty, and toughness.

Conformity Conformity is the behavior in accordance with socially accepted standards, rules, or laws. Conformity is expressed in the play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, in the two characters of Cyrano and Christian. Cyrano is insecure about his outside appearance and Christian’s insecurity is on the inside. Conformity creates justice and equality, but if rejected that leads to an individual having self esteem issues, and a society where there is no individuality. In “A Worn Path”, enduring is the word that best describes Phoenix because she undergoes issues with her mind, an arduous journey, and a racist man. First of all, Phoenix perseveres through all of the mental problems that she has. The narrator says, “She did not dare to close her eyes, and when a little boy brought her a plate with a slice of marble-cake on it she spoke to him. " That would be acceptable," she said.

Companionship in Of Mice and Men It’s hard to imagine going through life without a single friend. Having at least one companion in life is essential to one 's mental well being. Simply having someone to talk to, knowing that there is at least one person in this crazy world that cares. Companions can be quite simple and can also be very complex.

A true friendship is something that everyone wants to have but not everyone can have it. in the novella Of Mice and Men the author shows the true meaning of friendship and these 2 best friends Lennie and George shows that they have Friendship and they love each other,care for each other and always have their backs i give some really great evidence and try to show you the relationship these guys had. Through the book George one of the two main characters he shows how he cares and takes care of his good friend the other important character Lennie,who was a mental disability but he still loves him but he does show some tough love. In the book George has been shown numerous times that he takes care of Lennie but the first quote It 's because Lennie was in trouble he was about to die,but his friend does something really beautiful “Couldn 't we just lock him up the poor bastards nuts{steinbeck 87}”In this quote he 's trying to convince the guys who were about to kill him by saying he didn 't know what he was doing,This quote means that he really cares for his friend and he 's trying to save him.
