Abigail Seeking Revenge In The Crucible

Hunter Lahrmer English 10 Mrs. Sites 11October2016 Abigail’s strategy to get rid of Elizabeth Is the Crucible a fulfillment of the spell Abigail casts in the woods to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor? Abigail sought to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor so she can be with John. All of the girls from the town of Salem went into the woods and were casting spells to try and get the boys from the town to like them. Also Abigail cast a spell to get Elizabeth Proctor away so she could be with John Proctor.

Some people think that Abigail is not guilty of witchcraft but i do think she is guilty of witchcraft because she lies alot to a bunch of people. Usually some think that you are innocent until proven guilty but you can tell that she is but all the lies she tells. There is no doubt that Abigail is guilty because she lied about seeing the witches because she did not want to get in trouble by Mr. John Proctor. She danced with the witches in the woods and she was the lier of the whole entire town

In the late sixteen hundreds, the mania of the Salem witch trials affected various families and individuals. In order for such terrible events to take place, an array of people catalyzed the trials. In Arthur Miller’s theatrical work The Crucible, Miller creates a specific group of young girls who accuses countless amount of men and women of witchcraft. Abigail, the leader of the girls, testifies in many of the executions taken place by lying about the people’s collaboration with the devil. As one of the antagonists of the story, she intends to kill Elizabeth, the wife of her paramour, John Proctor.

Abigail uses the fact that every person shes accused has been a witch to secure her position as a trust worth witness in court. As seen when the suspension is raised to her, Abigail says, “I have been hurt, Mr. Danforth; I see my blood running out! I have been near to murdered every day because I have done my duty pointing out the Devil’s people -- and this is my reward? To be mistrusted, denied, questioned like a --” (113). She uses the fact that there is a perceived danger in callout witches as one can try to kill her because they feel threated or that she 's been hurt by witchcraft when it was just self-inflicted wounds.

In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows that truth does not concern the people of Salem; the townspeople are concerned with what they want the truth to be. The idea of witchcraft has plagued Salem, several girls including Tituba and Abigail have confessed to practicing witchcraft. Salem is relying on Abigail and her friends to tell the truth, they do not know that there is no thing as witchcraft. Proctor presents himself to the court to testify against Abigail, the court dose not listen because Danforth and the other court members are concerned with preserving the reputation of the court. While Abigail uses lies to protect her reputation, Proctor uses the truth.

In Arthur Miller’s book The Crucible, Abigail is the one to blame. This book took place in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts. 1692 was a period of time where which trial took place, and in Arthur Miller’s book eighteen year old Abigail Williams is the blame behind it all. Abigail is lustful, arrogance, mendacity and is now the blame behind this story. Abigail’s flaw of lustful goes along with the affair that her and john proctor had going on at one point.

Abigail wanted to get her vengeance on Elizabeth Proctor for firing her as a maid. John Proctor screamed in rage at Judge Danforth, “She thinks to dance with me on my wife’s grave!... But it is a whore’s vengeance, and you must see it…”(3.863-8). Abigail wanted to kill or blame Elizabeth for witchcraft to get her vengeance. She may have wanted vengeance, but that did not happen as much as scapegoating like when Abigail scapegoated Tituba.

Often times there’s a point in a person’s life where one wonders if they’re crossing the red line when it comes to reaching their goals. When the lines a drawn and crossed, people suffer, much like the 20 sad souls who were executed in the Salem witch trials, or the 205 falsely accused state department officials. False accusations that ended and ruined people’s lives have been going on for ages like the examples before. Either for self-preservation or to cheat their way up, these things have always been embedded in human nature. Just like in Arthur Miller’s, The crucible, Abigail William’s false accusations propelled the community into its own demise, which also happened when McCarthy doomed 205 members of the state department with his accusations.

In a small village called Salem, witchcraft and sorcery exist, however everyone is pointing fingers but not a single soul knows who is actually to blame for this nonsense. During this time period of hysteria, there are multiple scenes that are very questionable due to one person and one person only. Abigail is the one most responsible for the hysteria and witchcraft in Salem. She threatens the group of girls that accompanied her in the woods while they all danced. She has also lied about many things on multiple occasions in which causes an extreme amount of suspicion.

What does it mean to be a victim of society? A victim of society can more or less be defined as someone who is harmed by their surrounding environment. However, being a victim of society is not nearly as it seems as people may easily play the victim in order to manipulate others, and that scenario holds true in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. In this play, a crisis regarding the question of witchcraft is introduced in late eighteenth century Salem, a town ruled by a theocracy of predominantly Puritan beliefs. The dilemma first emerges when Betty, the daughter of Reverend Parris, the minister of Salem, is in almost a persistent vegetative state after having danced in the forest with Abigail Williams, Parris’s niece, and other girls within the

Society as a whole seeks to satisfy themselves. This may be at the expense of their peers or individuals they are associated with. Arthur Miller brilliantly displays this dark side of humanity’s side in his play The Crucible. This play is based on the Salem witch trials in the early 1690s. During the Salem witch trials over two hundred people were accused of witchcraft and twenty were executed.

Although Abigail Williams does not physically appear in Act 2, her presence is felt throughout The Crucible. She affects and hurts the lives of her family. She is the main source of trouble. If she wants something, she'll get it. At the beginning, there is a lot of closeness between her and the proctor family.

Abigail A 17 year old girl who portrays herself to be sweet and kind, but is truly not what everything thinks she is. Abigail at one time worked in Proctor’s home. She was dismissed from Proctor’s home because Elizabeth found out what was going on. Abigail started to point fingers at people and telling lies to get back at Proctor. Abigail’s pay back to him affects everyone.

Next, The Crucible by Arthur Miller, showcases the effects and outcomes of this type of remorseless evil at work. The book is about a girl, who in making wild accusations, allows people to get punished and die for her own mistakes. She has an affair with a married man, who is older than her, and as events progress she covers this affair up with lies, and manages to get her friend in on it, accusing people of witchcraft, a very serious crime at the time, instead of owning up to what she had done. “Shut it! Now shut it! . . .

Abigail The Victim In the Crucible many are to blame for the events that occurred, but one of the one’s who seems to take blame the most is Abigail Williams. She holds most of the responsibility because she was to blame for the girls meeting with Tituba in the woods. When Parris located the girls in the woods, Abigail tries to hide her behavior because she fears that it will uncover her affair with Proctor if she confesses that she attempted to cast a spell on his wife, Elizabeth. Abigail also lies to avoid being punished for witchcraft.
