Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer who sailed around the ocean in the 15th century. Columbus has a long record of discoveries, the one many consider to be his main, however, is his “discovery” of the the new world. This discovery of a new land led to many subsequent discoveries and also led to a turning point in the history of this world. Technological advances have made many changes to our world and no doubt these advances would have also made changes to the planning of the voyage and the actual voyage itself. Technological advances such as detailed maps, the global positioning system, and the invention of the engine are all technological advances that would have drastically changed christopher columbus’s voyage.

Mentioned in an article from Britannica, “(Columbus) was obsessed with the ocean from a young age and began his sailing career in his teens,” leading him to become an expert navigator and ambitious explorer. In every part of his voyages, good or bad, Columbus introduced Europe to new land where they could expand and build new settlements. He encouraged many other explorers to sail west and introduced what is known today as The Columbian Exchange. This is where he began swapping and trading New World and Old World technologies, plants, cultures, and ideas. He brought together the Eastern and Western hemispheres of the world while also opening a new international economy and helping Europe colonize new lands.

One of these accomplishments was introducing the Old World to the Americas while changing history, according to the Columbian Exchange packet. The Vikings did come to the Americas hundreds of years earlier, but they didn’t introduce all of the Old World to the Americas. Columbus, on the other hand, caused trade and interaction to occur between the two unfamiliar parts of the world. Another major accomplishment of Columbus was to be able to take several trips back and forth from Europe while bringing very precious materials, such as gold, back to Spain. Columbus did whatever he could to get his hands onto these items, and when he brought them to Spain, they had a great amount of value.

so if he could not count then no one would able to. Finding, then naming the islands whatever you want and truly calling this your own discovery is preposterous

Columbus and his legacy should be characterized positively because he discovered many great things,caused the Columbian Exchange,while it was not direct,it was quite impactful. In addition,he had a terrific personality that led to many important events. Columbus and his legacy should be characterized positively for discovering many things for Europe,which was a great benefit. Columbus discovered America for Europe. While the Vikings,who were European,had already been to America,Columbus was the one to spread the knowledge of the land,leading to the colonization of the Americas.

He authored a four-book biography of Columbus and portrayed him as a brave American hero. “Columbus was a man of great and inventive genius. His ambition was lofty and noble, inspiring him with high thoughts and an anxiety to distinguish himself by great achievements. His conduct was characterized by the grandeur of his views and the magnanimity [nobility] of his spirit.” Instead of writing, that Columbus was devastating to the newly found nation and that he sought to take over, cultivate and civilize the Natives.

When I was younger I was under the impression that Christopher Columbus was a great man and that he discovered America. We celebrate Columbus day because we honor him for “discovering America”. From this new information that I have learned today, Christopher Columbus is not the man iv have been taught about.

Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.

Before Indians had been living there long before Columbus came and even before that Vikings had sailed Greenland and Newfoundland in the 11th century. Christopher Columbus started a new surge in exploration after he went on his expeditions. Columbus’s explorations also took a huge toll on the natives who lived there. They brought diseases that killed off many of the indians and they also had a huge impact on the environment. They started to extract natural resources from the earth.

Christopher Columbus was the man credited with the discovery of the New World, even though the Native Americans and possibly the Vikings discovered it before him. He is celebrated as an American hero among many, but among some, he is a monster. Columbus was the man that tried to discover the westward route to the East Indies for the Spanish (14-1), and ultimately, he opened the Americas for colonial expansion to Europe. He is said to have enslaved many Native Americans, committing horrible atrocities to them. The question on the table is whether Columbus was a hero or villain.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue. We all know this catchy tune right? But what we don’t know, is what Columbus thought when he arrived in the North America or what he though of the Native Americans he met. In fact, we don’t know much about all the explorers after Columbus and what they thought. Each explore had their own view of the Native Americans, and three great examples are Columbus, Juan Ginés de Sepúlveda and Bartolomé de Las Casas

Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.

He tried to sail west for years, but he never had enough money to. ¨He was so determined to fulfill his dream even though he could not afford to pay for such a trip.¨(Document #1) He was determined even though it seemed that he would never get to sail. There were many people who doubted him and said that he would never be able to sail, but he never gave up on his dream of sailing west, and finding Asia. It is a good thing that he didn 't give up.
