Mary Romero's essay "Intersection of Biography and History: My Intellectual Journey" illustrates C. Wright Mill's concept of the Sociological Imagination in three aspects. First Romero is observing the girl in a detached fashion not letting the personal aspects cloud the Sociological Imagination. Then Romero connects personal problems to societal forces because Juanita problem was not she was not being treated fairly as the other kids in the household. She was the only one working with all the household chores while other kids where enjoying their life and giving her orders instead. One day Romero observed that the employer's younger son was giving order to Juanita and Juanita just stood there shocked and humiliated. Since she was a servant …show more content…
In 2014, I was working for Vonage, a telecommunication company as a sales representative. When someone works as a sales representative, people assume that the job of a sales representative is primarily communication, but in my case, it was the opposite. I felt like I was "invisible" and there was very little communication. On the first day of my job, my general manager told me to put in a random Alaskan address as Alaska had cheaper taxes compared to Illinois. I was concerned, so I asked the other eight sales representatives if it was ok to do so. They said, "Saira, we have been doing this for quite a long time, so you can do it too." I wanted to tell them how wrong they were following this fraud procedure, but no one was ready to listen to me. Everyone was like, "we are working since years, you do not have to teach us. We know better than you and if you want to keep your job, then you do the same." I felt as if I was invisible. I had no right to say what I thought was morally right or wrong and no one cared about my feelings. I had to follow what the seniors at my workplace were telling me to do. In order to keep my colleagues and general manager happy, I also started putting in a random Alaskan address while signing in customers for Vonage. About a month after I started working for Vonage reality hit me hard, when I got an email from my regional manager which read that I was fired because the company found out about the Alaskan address fraud. I was devastated. It was my first job and I was fired. What would be worse than this? I went up to my general manager and confronted him and asked him why he had advised me wrong. He said that although he had told me to put in a random Alaskan address, doing so was completely my choice. I was shocked to hear this coming from him. That day I realized that one should not let peer pressure get in the way and should always do what one think is right regardless of what people tell

So, I must be guilty. The boss offered me a choice: quit or be fired. I quit, with the shadow of guilt hanging over me, and continued to feel the guilt until the next summer when, long after I was gone, more money disappeared from the cash register. It was only then that I realized it wasn’t my

I remembered the thing I have always been told, “you should never do anything that makes you suspect of a crime.” I grew up in Los Angeles, and
I worked at a large convenience store as a stocker and was taken advantage of my good work ethics. The supervisor ironically thanks me for it. He giggles and says, “Congratulation, you have done well, I now promote you to do more work!” Instead of being responsible for having the laid-back employees do their work, he commands me to do it for them. In complaining about it, he punishes me with more work.
Individuals within society are influenced by the socio-economic factors of the society which they inhabit. This essay will discuss Sociological imagination which was first mentioned by author C.W. Mills who wrote a book with the same title. The personal problem that will be discussed is childhood trauma, because it is broad this essay will focus more on depression and how it effects society on a larger scale. Lastly this essay will then show the advantages of using Social Imagination in our everyday life’s and how we can use it to the benefit of society on a wider scale. Social Imagination is the concept of being able to differentiate a personal problem from a problem that is affecting a wider society on a much larger scale.
Sociological imagination can be defined as one’s awareness of the impact that society has on their personal life because of the outside conditions and circumstances. The outside world create standards for people, even if they do not know that they are being looked at in this way. Therefore, society influences a person’s behavior and limits their free will. This theory is clearly demonstrated in The Truman Show. The movie helps to deepen my understanding of sociological imagination and helps me to see how the outside world controls my life.
So let’s start by looking at the term ‘sociological imagination’ and what it actually means. ‘The sociological imagination enables us to grasp history and biography
I could tell that he knew I was lying, but I just snickered away, and he continued eating his chocolate donut. I work at city hall as a city council representative. Work usually sucks, but the other day was even worse than usual. This annoying, but determined lady, came in rambling on and on about taking the garbage out of this abandoned lot, and she brought some of it with her! The only reason we decided to go through
An example of Sociological Imagination in todays world can be the issue of poverty. Poverty is rapidly growing in the United States day by day. The poverty levels in the last few years have greatly increased. When an issue like this starts to form, Sociological Imagination is a very helpful way to look at the issue to understand it better. One must take the issue of Poverty itself and examine it by putting the issue on two different scales.
Sociological Imagination The sociological imagination is the ability to look beyond one’s own everyday life as a cause for daily successes and failures and see the entire society in which one lives as potential cause for these things. Many individuals experience one or more social problems personally. For example, many people are poor and unemployed, many are in poor health, and many have family problems. When we hear about these individuals, it is easy to think that their problems are theirs alone, and that they and other individuals with the same problems are entirely to blame for their difficulties. Sociology imagination takes a different approach, as it stresses that individual problems are often rooted in problems stemming from aspects
However, in our society we need to understand the importance of sociological imagination and how it helps us understand the society as a whole. In our society we have noticed
