Rhetorical Analysis: Rickrolling A song resurrection movement occurred when rickrolling came into internet culture. Rick Astley thought his song “Never Gonna Give you Up” wasn’t going to make it out of the eighties let alone past the millenia. Given at it’s time it had one a Brit Award and have a five week standing as number one on the charts, no one expected a tune like that to outlive the eighties. However, its upbeat rhythm happens to now be considered timeless because of how the internet shaped it.

Rhetorical Appeals in the Wounded Warrior Project Advertisements The Wounded Warrior Project recruits the aid of the American public to honor and assist injured veterans of the United States armed forces. Through financial aid, the non-profit organization provides programs for the physical and mental injuries of soldiers with little or no cost to the warriors. The organization also offers support services for the warrior’s family (www.woundedwarriorproject.org). Through advertisements, the Wounded Warrior Project hopes to gain the public’s aid to finance the organization’s programs.

Rhetorical Analysis of Jon Krakauer’s “Into the Wild ” Jon Krakauer ’s purpose in writing Into the Wild is to recount Chris McCandless’ journey, physical and metaphysical, from college in Georgia to his death in Alaska, through the use of factual, and anecdotal evidence. Krakauer uses factual evidence to establish that he is a trustworthy narrator capable of giving the reader a realistic scope on the events in the story. Jon uses anecdotal evidence to see into Chris’ psyche from the various perspectives found in the book’s excerpts, including how Jon understands the events.

“The Unknown Soldier” by The Doors was written and performed by Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek,Robby Krieger, and John Densmore, all members of The Doors. Many radio stations refused to play it because of its content and controversial topic. It was released in March of 1968 and later that year a music video or film was also released. The video features clips of actual footage from the Vietnam war. All though they made the video so it could be played at venues that would not allow them to perform the song, some still wouldn't allow it because it was also considered too controversial because it contained footage of the war and Jim Morrison with blood coming out of his mouth.

In her essay “Zombies as a Metaphor for Society” Sabrina Student attempts to discuss the history and evolution of zombie-based entertainment and the social implications of this pop culture icon. According to Student, zombies are an effective storytelling vehicle to discuss societal issues at key points in American history. Careful reading of Student’s paper reveals many faults in her documentation of information sources, and a troubling lack of competency in Modern Language Association (MLA) style. Student’s page formatting, in-text citations, and the Works Cited page all contain errors ranging from minor punctuation mistakes to serious breaches of information integrity.

Finding Nemo teaches the importance of family and how to face your fears for those that you love. The movie focuses on two fish, Marlin and Dory trying to find Marlins lost son Nemo after fishermen took him. Since Nemo is the only family Marlin has he is very protective over him, and before he was born he grabbed on to, what was only just an egg at the time and said, “I will never let anything happen to you”.

“Honey, you are changing that boy’s life.” A friend of Leigh Anne’s exclaimed. Leigh Anne grinned and said, “No, he’s changing mine.” This exchange of words comes from the film trailer of an award-winning film, The Blind Side, directed by John Lee Hancock, released on November 20th, 2009. This film puts emphasis on a homeless, black teen, Michael Oher, who has had no stability or support in his life thus far.

Richard Louv, a novelist, in Last Child in the Woods (2008) illustrates the separation between humans and nature. His purpose to the general audience involves exposing how the separation of man from nature is consequential. Louv adopts a sentimental tone throughout the rhetorical piece to elaborate on the growing separation in modern times. Louv utilizes pathos, ethos and logos to argue that the separation between man and nature is detrimental.

Although Humanity struggles with their own religious faith, The Walking Dead takes it to a whole new level when the characters are put in an apocalyptic world where it is Vidal to have faith in order to survive. The Walking Dead uses biblical allusions and symbols to emphasize humanity’s need for faith in general, and to demonstrate that survival depends on that faith. Hershel Greene is the ideal Christian who does not question God’s existence. He believes strongly in what he considers to be right and is known to be uncompromising in defense of his morals. Through this post- apocalyptic world, he puts his Christian faith first in order to survive.

Living Like Weasels Rhetorical Analysis In her essay “Living Like Weasels”, Annie Dillard explores the idea of following a single calling in life, and attaching one’s self it this calling as the weasel on Ernest Thompson Seton’s eagle had. Dillard presents her argument using the analogy of a weasel and how the; “weasel lives as he’s meant to, yielding at every moment to the perfect freedom of single necessity” (Dillard). In constructing her argument, however, she often contradicts herself undermining the effectiveness of her argument and leaving the reader confused. Dillard primarily uses ethos and pathos to support her argument and concerning both, the reader discovers; inconsistencies in her character, and conflicts between her perceptions

In Friday Night Lights, H.G. Bissinger appeals to his audience’s sense of emotions in order to persuade his readers that the obsession with high school football negatively affects everyone’s future in Odessa, Texas. Bissinger relies on emotional appeals by employing devices and techniques to present individuals’ personal stories and experiences. His searing portrayal of Odessa, and its Permian High School football team, exposes the side of sports that severely impacts the people living in this society. Bissinger shows the long term consequences of this delusion on the people who are directly and indirectly associated with Permian football. This demonstrate how detrimental the burdens are for the children, which touches the reader’s heart.

Most individuals are able to succeed in life based on their past occurrences. Normally, everyone’s life is the way it is based on what they have done or experienced in the past. However, how one reacts to to their experiences determines their outcome in life. History, memories, and the past encounters are never entirely separated from current events. In order for things to be set in motion in the present, past transgressions precede to teach valuable lessons that connects to the present.

In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. Napoleon was placed in a position of power after Major died, and he slowly starts to lavish in his power and become addicted to the lush life of a dictator. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.

How powerful is a single story? At Ted Global 2009, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a Nigerian novelist, expresses her view of single stories and the ways in which they are used to create stereotypes and divides us as a people. Adichie’s talk, “The Danger of a Single Story”, stimulates careful consideration to what happens when people and situations are reduced to a single narrative. She believes single stories are highly correlated with the power structures of the world and have the ability to strip people of their humanity.
