According to Google, War is a state of armed conflict between different countries or groups within a nation or state. These armed conflicts are mostly caused by the government. During this time, the government can control you, the civilian, and you don’t even realize it. How may they control you, you may ask? By propaganda. War acknowledges the fact that there is a lot of propaganda used by the government to persuade the civilian’s point of view about a political cause, as shown in the texts A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah and “from An Ordinary Man” by Paul Rusesabagina.
Propaganda is used by the government to persuade the civilian’s point of view during war. “From An Ordinary Man” by Paul Rusesabagina reveals that “The parents of these people [Hutus] had been told over and

The government is manipulating the Hutus to make sure they keep disputing and rioting against the Tutsis. By doing that, the government is making sure that the war doesn’t die down easily. If the government didn’t communicate the poisonous rhetoric to the people, the war could have possibly ended much earlier than expected. In conjunction with the first quote, Rusesabagina confirms the fact that the poisonous rhetoric said by the government does work on the civilians, by giving an example of Peter. “Peter was just a cool guy; so nice to children, very gentle, kind of a kidder but never mean with his humor. I saw him that morning wearing a military uniform and holding a machete dripping in blood” (Rusesabagina 82). Anyone can be influenced by propaganda in war, no one is safe. One minute, someone could be like Peter, kindhearted, sweet, gentle, and the next minute, that same person can be a violent, heartless machine. Just because of words. Words have a big impact on us humans. Furthermore, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah, illustrates that
The impact of war can have very harmful effects on people, especially children. In “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah, he explains the war of Sierra Leone from his point of view. The tragedy of losing his family, becoming a boy soldier, and the effects of war is said throughout the book, making it an interesting story to read. But, while Ishmael explains what he went through, it is hidden that other people were affected by the actions he took. Although Ishmael did play a victimizer, he was also a victim at the same time.

When talking about war, there are many books with few answers to what war truly is. Barbara Ehrenreich brings forth not only the possibilities towards understanding war but also the passion people from history have had towards it. One key issue she brings to light is humanities love for war, so much so that people would use excuses like holy wars to justify their need to fight in a war. She declares that war is as muddled as the issue of diseases and where diseases came from around 200 years ago. More so than that she even goes further on to state that these rituals that date back to prehistoric times are the cause of human nature during times of war rather than human instinct.
In Soldier from the War Returning, Thomas Childers writes that “a curious silence lingers over what for many was the last great battle of the war.” This final battle was the soldier’s return home. After World War II, veterans came back to the United States and struggled with stigmatized mental illnesses as well as financial and social issues. During the war, many soldiers struggled with mental health issues that persisted after they came home.
Not experiencing war is a luxury many people unfortunately do not get; however, Ishmael Beah, the author of A Long Way Gone, lives and survives the war, though not without heartache. Ishmael proves war is hell through the killing of civilians. Many innocent bystanders of the war are forced out of their homes, made to run for their lives.

“We all say not war, we are all for justice and peace. But sometimes in order to maintain peace, armed action is necessary. But we hope it won’t be the case"-by Silvio Bersuconi. This quote was said by former Italian Prime Minister who spoke about war.
War and genocide have historically been closely related and even described as Siamese twins. Genocide can occur without war but war cannot occur without some elements of genocide as the distinction between legitimate war and genocide is not clear. War is defined as an armed conflict between different nations or groups within a nation. Scholars who have studied the relationship between war and genocide have argued that they are one in the same. It is a very convincing argument especially when examining the UN Convention on genocide.
4 Different Aspects of New York and Sierra Leone Discussed in A Long Way gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier Ishmael Beah presents a sharp comparison between the life in New York and Sierra Leone in his book A Long Way gone Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. These differences are based on his own personal experiences as a native of Sierra Leone and a resident in New York. Beah was a teenage soldier in his native town during the civil war that his country faced during the 1990’s. He participated in that war as a teenage soldier representing his government against the rebel fighters.
Literary Analysis War is defined as a conflict between different Nations or States or different groups within a Nation or State. However, war affects more than just those who fight in it. In I Have Lived a Thousand Years: Growing Up In The Holocaust, War uproots the main character's life. The movie effectively exposes the manipulation and exploitation of ethnic identities by political actors, which intensified divisions and animosity between the two groups. Political instability, ethnic conflicts, lack of basic services, and economic disruption are presented as significant push factors contributing to these tensions. The film powerfully illustrates that ethnic identities extend beyond individual beliefs and cultural practices, becoming spatial markers of segregation and violence. By drawing boundaries along ethnic lines, the division between Hutus and Tutsis was further emphasized, ultimately leading to the targeted persecution of one group during the genocide. Moreover, the movie emphasizes the power dynamics associated with ethnicity and identity.

To make them do this, the Hutu groups would bribe the citizens. They would offer them food, money, or shelter. They were also told that they could have the ground of the Tutsi that they had just killed (BBC,
