Gun control is a hot debated issue in America 's society right now on the heels of the Florida school shooting. Doing a quick Google search of recent tragedies, the first result displays over ten school shootings within the last twelve months. While there is no shortage of tragedy and carnage in the wake of gun violence there is no reason to ban guns all together. The arguments for more stringent laws, gun free zones, and stating that guns are evil have logic behind them, but the rationale behind the counter arguments have just as much if not more validity. Congress immediately begun to spur and feed of the masses going to social media calling for action to bring about more laws regulating gun sales and ownership.

In 5 Arguments Against Gun Control-and Why They are All Wrong the authors state "Rep. Louis Gohmert pontificated: "I refuse to play the game of 'assault weapon. ' That 's any weapon. It 's a hammer. It 's the machetes. In Rwanda that killed 800,000 people, an article that came out this week, the massive number that are killed with hammers." (DeFillipis, Evan and Devin Hughes, Par. 14) An everyday item such as a baseball bat, a tool used for a sport something in which many children have possession, can be used as a deadly item. If a person is killed with a bat does that make all bats bad and subject to being banned? While the intent of creation of the tools may differ the use of said tools by a minority should not decide the fate of the masses.
Gun-control is a debate that will continue into the future and well past our expiration dates, we may never see a true answer, but that doesn 't mean it shouldn 't be talked about. There are solid arguments to both sides of the coin such as laws, gun free zones and the morality of guns themselves, each with their own merits. The fact remains that no matter what society decides to do unless the world joins in the effort criminals will find a way to acquire these tools and use them. When and if that day comes I want to have something to protect myself and my children against any
The general argument made by Paul Waldman in his work, “The Case For Banning Guns”, is that Paul Waldman believes that guns should be banned. More specifically, Paul Waldman believes that we should ban items that make guns more dangerous like bump stocks or devices that turn your semi-automatic gun into an automatic weapon. Paul Waldman writes, “No matter what legislation we might pass, even in liberal states that have increased restrictions in recent years, we won 't get anywhere near banning guns. In particular, we won 't address the biggest gun problem we have, which is not mass shootings but the daily carnage that claims around 90 Americans lives every day — and that means handguns, not military-style rifles or accessories like bump stocks. Precisely because we can 't start from scratch, all we can do is trim around the edges, try to find ways to reduce the unending slaughter a little bit here and a little bit there.”
Why take away the protection and recreational shooting practices of innocent citizens because others are irresponsible? Gun control laws are a major issue being discussed in the U.S. right now. Some believe that by condemning the availability of firearms to all, criminals and people with mental illnesses will be less likely to attain firearms. However they are then violating the people’s second amendment right, which give them the right to bear arms. According to the article on “Gun Control Laws” from the Issues and Controversies database, It all started on “June 12, 2016, when a gunman killed 49 at a gay nightclub in Orlando Florida.”
Humans have been using guns for over 400 years and there has never been a problem that they had to ban guns. Guns are a mean of survival and protection and always will be. They should run background checks on everyone who tries to purchase a gun. They should not sell guns to people that are mentally ill or have other types mental disorders. Guns should only be sold to people that has not committed any violent crimes.
‘’Guns are responsible for over thirty-three thousand deaths in the United States annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).. In 2014, the CDC reported that 11,008 of the 15,872 homicides committed in the United States that year involved a firearm. Of the 42,826 suicides reported that year, 21,386 involved a firearm. These statistics have inspired efforts at the federal and state levels to enact gun control legislation to reduce crime and violence’’(‘’Gun Control’’). According to the statistic guns are held for over 33,000 deaths in the United States.
A weapon in the wrongs hands is the maximum danger humanity can face. Nowadays, violence and delinquency in society are viewed as the maximum problem solver. Humanity is full of chaos; hate and envy seize our souls. Guns are the ultimate security for some citizens but for others, these add to a feeling of defenselessness. Throughout history, any topic related to guns means a plethora of problems.
Strict regulations and limitations have been pursued already and clearly do not suffice. Statics brought to attention by gun control opponents, show that gun control laws have done little to reduce crime rates. Several restrictions have been made on certain guns, considered as overly dangerous, though in the hands of an unstable criminal even a legal hunting gun can be deadly. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.
In the past, the major gun control legislations that have been put into effect have not stopped people from obtaining firearms (Gun Control.) There have also been cases in the past where cities have attempted to ban handguns. After the ban was put into effect, murder rates tended to rise instead of drop, unlike what most people might assume. Crime rates and violence also skyrocketed after the bans were put into effect. Another problem with taking guns away, or banning them, is that the government cannot expect everyone to abide by the laws.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
Are we really in need of gun control? The controversary on gun control has been an existing topic since early 18th century or maybe even earlier. Throughout American history, technology has improved dramatically and the improvement on technology has increased the danger which lies in the barrel of a gun. From handguns to machine guns, regular civilians have found ways to get their hands on these war-like weapons. In my opinion, I think it is realistic to say that there is simply no way the government can cease the use of guns.
Mr Lapierre, Do you know of the 8 year old who is afraid she will be shot during lock down by a psychopathic student because her shoes light up? Do you know of the 14 year old who got shot because she refused to go to prom with a boy? On average there are nearly 13,000 gun homicides a year in the U.S. In January 2018 alone there have 28 shootings with varying numbers of killed and injured people. 28.
Guns are one of many things that makes us survive and also helps us get our food and so our lives can continue. As guns continue to be apart of the culture, they will help us out a lot by doing the things that I listed above, and this is why I think guns shouldn’t be banned in
Gun laws simply penalize and restrict honest citizens while criminals continue to find ways and loopholes to arm themselves. Gun laws currently established serve their purpose rather poorly as criminals unceasingly buy guns even after they are said to be forbidden. History serves as a clear example of how guns protect the rights and liberties of individuals as it was private guns that aided colonists in fighting the British and gaining America’s
America will never see the day where guns will be banned. Limitations will be created, but will it solve the increasing death percentage that is from firearms? Without the ‘safety’ of guns, people would not be able to defend themselves should they need to (factcheck.org). However, that’s not true. Just because someone has a gun to make them feel safer, gives no guarantee that they’ll be able to shoot the threat and have good aim.
Before researching more in depth, I believe bad people do bad things and banning guns will not be effective in stopping it. Australia is a great example of a country banning certain guns and the crime and homicide rate have both
