Restored operating steam locomotives provide an opportunity for railfans to experience what was once commonplace. Since most steam locomotives have been out of service for more than 40 years, many people have never seen them operate. Railfan groups and historical societies sponsor passenger trains that allow fans to ride behind and photograph these beautiful machines. Here Nickel Plate #765 pauses after a photo run-by for passengers at Norfolk Southern's Seneca siding in South-central Michigan.
