Pitseolak Ashoona was born in Nottingham Island in the Hudson Straits. Ashoona grew up on Baffin Island. She has a reputation as one of the best of the Cape Dorset artists. Pitseolak was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy and a recipient of the Order of Canada. She produced over 7000 documented original works.
