This can be explained numerous times throughout the story where some cases are that the main protagonist, Frenchie, experiences losses within the story, first being his loss of his brother, the loss of RiRi, and eventually the loss of Minerva. The loss of Minerva is the best example as the way the characters feels is demonstrated best by the quote, “Sometimes you risk everything for a life worth living, even if you’re not the one that’ll be alive to see it” (Dimaline 152). Frenchie believed that Mitch had sacrificed himself for him so he had to keep going, “Mitch had sacrificed himself so I could live, so I had to live. It was the only thing left I could do for him” (Dimaline 7). Additionally, the loss of his brother gave Frenchie the motivation to survive, and it is with that choice that he found Miigwans and the group he would soon call his family. Furthermore, towards the middle of the story the group comes across a fence in which a conversation takes place if the fence is electrified, Miigwans is about to put his hand on the fence to touch it but Frenchie beats him to it saying that Miigwans life is much more valuable than his, Frenchie was ready to sacrifice himself to keep his family safe. Fortunately, the fence was not electrified but that did not stop the conversation between Miigwans and Frenchie where Miigwans states that no life is more valuable than others. Lastly, the sacrifice of Minevra is what impacted the characters the most as they all made the decision to go back for her. Frenchie, in particular, realizes the change that she had on him and states it in this quote,” Something has changed. The story emphasizes the unwavering spirit of humanity and the strength of resistance in a future in which there is a global shortage of dreams and emotions. The novel examines three key concepts that shed light on the numerous ways resistance is manifested through the experiences of the characters: the rejection of social conventions, the protection of cultural identity, and the search for optimism in the face of despair.
" I like this quote because it explains that risks make you brave, stronger, and more confident. In " Address to the Nation on the Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger" by Ronald Reagan, it said, "The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for their journey and waved goodbye and “slipped the surly bonds of earth” to “touch the face of God.” The challengers took a risk by trying to go up in space.
This can be seen in that quote, “Fight! Fight for the butter side up! Do or die!” (Suess 15). He is exaggerating that if you don't fight you die but if you don't fight you will most likely not die.
2. Rejected Extremes Jim is able to reconcile various manifestations of adulthood where others have failed through the rejection of rigid, extremist, and even stereotypical roles. A clear example of such dismissal of rigidity occurs when Captain Smollett commands Jim to get to work: “I assure you I was quite of the squire 's way of thinking, and hated the captain deeply” (Stevenson 28).
In my opinion, the quote means to stand up for yourself, and to not be afraid of not sharing the same opinion as someone else. You are your own person. It also means to not let others statements and beliefs decide for you. Explore the world yourself, and then decide on what to do, based on what you experience first-hand. It means to fight for what you believe in, no matter what the cost.

In situations of extreme oppression, oftentimes self-sacrifice comes through as a means for survival. In The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline, self-sacrifice is apparent throughout, especially as the Indigenous characters suffer under the now-oppressive dystopian society that has been established by the government — who also persecutes them for their bone marrow, which is said to contain their dreams.

If anxiety is at the front of the brain, a person’s rational decision-making ability can be impaired. Being able to make rational decisions is key to surviving. This quote suggests that no matter what happens in life, there is always something else waiting, whether it be good or bad.
