Detective Deirdre Enright says, “You don’t have enough to put Adnan away, not to me you don’t,” in episode seven of the Serial podcast. Sarah Koenig is the narrator of this podcast, and she delivers the evidence in an unbiased tone so that the audience can develop their own stance on the case, without being subconsciously swayed by her opinion. The case focuses on the trial of Adnan Syed, and debates whether or not he killed Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. After weighing in all the facts, rumors, and theories, the only logical answer is that Adnan is, without a doubt, innocent of murdering Hae Lee. Pretty much the only thing the prosecution has to go off of is the cell phone records of that day. There is no other solid piece of evidence. …show more content…
She had a great reputation and was known to be one of the best attorneys money could buy. When Adnan’s family heard about Gutierrez, the entire Muslim community started chipping in to pay for her. Be that as it may, during the trial, something wasn’t right. Shamim Syed, Adnan’s mom, said that Gutierrez started bullying Adnan’s family for more money than the original arrangement. At one point, she even asked for $10,000 cash. Another couple who hired Gutierrez for a case around the same time as Adnan’s, Ron and Sue, say she was also giving them trouble. According to them she was very late filing briefs, hard to get ahold of, and constantly asked for more money. Going back to Adnan’s case, there are some mistakes made that she could’ve avoided. A crucial one being Asia McClain’s potential alibi for Adnan. Asia was Adnan’s classmate, and she distinctly remembers talking to him after school at the Woodlawn public library on January 13th. Yet, Gutierrez never contacted her, seriously? Additionally, Gutierrez told Adnan not to testify at trial. Why? According to jurors, they would’ve prefered if he did. Also, during Syed’s first trial, she was called a liar, got heated, and called for a mistrial. This was a mistake, not to mention extremely unprofessional. People said it was looking good for Adnan, and he could have a different life if she would’ve just kept going …show more content…
In fact, Sarah Koenig and Dana Chivvis tried to recreate the timeline of what supposedly happened after school on January 13th. They went from Woodlawn high school, where school gets out at 2:15pm, to Best Buy, where the murder was said to take place. Koenig and Chivvis accounted for the time it would’ve taken to get out of the parking lot and drive during weekday traffic. They pulled that part off in the allotted time slot, but just barely. This shows that it wasn’t impossible to Adnan to have killed Hae by 2:36pm, but it would’ve had to have been done perfectly. Another puzzle yet to be solved is the entirety of Jay’s Patapsco State Park story. This can’t be ignored, because when Jay talks about it, he uses so much vivid detail that it’s hard to believe that he made it up. However, come trial, poof. It never happened. Either way, this narrative doesn’t match the itinerary. Patapsco is twenty minutes from where they were before, and if Adnan wants to get back to school in time for track in order to secure an alibi, there’s no way he could’ve made it on time. It doesn’t make any sense that they drove that far just to smoke some
Therefore, it’s perfectly logical that Adnan can’t remember much about that day, even weeks later. Most importantly, both teens had alibis for January 13th at 2:36pm. Clearly, Adnan couldn’t have killed Hae that day. Next, while the jury does eventually rule in favor of the prosecution, when the state’s evidence is brought to light, it crumbles under the pressure.
During the length of this documentary many events transpired starting with the Deputy District Attorney Tracy Prior giving her statements of the events that took place October 30th. Her statement explained that Lucia Garcia the wife of Alfred Garcia woke up approximately at 2:30 am and noticed her husband was not in
He tells the police that Adnan, did in fact, kill Hae. Jay also helped take her body to Leakin Park to help bury it; making Jay an accomplice. This was the police’s main lead in the entire investigation. The story seemed some what legit for the most part. Plus, it was the only thing they could really go on.
there is a lot of parts where they said that Adnan Syed is innocent, For example Because if he was in the library that equals innocent ,Asia says he’s innocent, i would says he’s innocent. “ Saad Chaudry thinks Adnan is innocent”. A lot of people made him look innocent which of course I believe he’s innocent. (S1.ep1.pg27.), (S1. ep6 .pg 108.)
Sarah states, “ If I’m Adnan and I need to be seen for track, I’m freaking out right now, that I need to get back for track to have an alibi.” “But, it is possible. Or at least not impossible, which was what Adnan was saying in that first letter.” These quotes explain Adnan is innocent because if he had killed Hae before Jay said they went to the park to smoke weed, why would Adnan want to go far from school if he knew he had a track practice to go to? The route Jay was explaining could have been possible, but everything had to have been the right time and right movements to prove it.
Cristina Hernandez, his defense lawyer, also contributed to his loss in the case. Although there are a few circumstances that may point the finger to him, regardless
Using the fact that Adnan led a 'dual life', he is easily found guilty since everyone already thinks of him as shady since they found out he did drugs. But anyone who knew Adnan, knew he wasn't shady. " He was like the community's golden child." , "He was an honor roll student, volunteer EMT. He was on the football team.
Asia’s story shows that Adnan was not around Hae at the time of her murder. According to Asia, Adnan was in the library around 2:30 – the same time Hae was murdered- proving that Adnan was wrongfully convicted. Furthermore, Asia wrote Adnan a note which states “I’m not sure if you remember talking to me in the library on January 13th, but I remembered chatting with you. Throughout your actions that day I have a reason to believe in your innocence” (https://serialpodcast.org/season-one/1/the-alibi0). This restates my claim that Adnan being in wrongfully convicted based on Asia’s testimony.
Adnan isn't guilty for committing murder in the Hae Min Lee case, due to questionable evidence, plus bias judgements. Furthermore, the importance of having substantial evidence tQhat is very reliable, and not questionable. There have been
Six weeks later, a man found her bodied buried in Leakin Park. After a police investigation, Adnan was tried and found guilty of killing Hae. But is that what really happened? Based on the evidence provided, there is reason to suspect that Adnan Syed did not kill Hae Min Lee.
“Serial” Podcast Hae Min Lee, murder at eighteen by strangulation was found dead February 9, 1999 in Leakin Park, Baltimore. Adnan Syed has been in prison for over fifteen years after being convicted of murdering his ex- girlfriend Hae. He has been sentenced for more than thirty years in prison. Jay Wilds testified against Adnan about Hae’s murder even though Jay helped Adnan bury Hae’s body. Adnan is Innocent Do you remember what you did on this day, exactly one week ago? You might remember some things about that day, or you might remember nothing. How about if I asked what you did 6 weeks ago on this day? Could you tell me?
is an impossible time for Adnan to reach the scene of the crime, let alone kill his girlfriend Hae Min Lee. During their investigation, Sarah Koenig and Dana Chivvis decide to test out the state’s timeline. While doing their walk-through, they discovered that it was almost impossible to get to the Best Buy, kill Hae, and then put her body in the trunk. Koenig said, “So that’s giving the State the benefit of the doubt, right? If she’s really hustling, maybe she can get to her car in say two minutes” (Koenig, “Route Talk”).
