Lgbtq Persuasive Speech

Over 90% of students who identify themselves as LGBTQ hear discriminating comments on a daily basis at school. People who are from this community have a bigger probability of being victims of hate crimes than any other minority group. This violence is made up of hatred and aggression towards the queer community. Despite personal opinions, everyone deserves to feel safe.

The LGBTQQ rights movement was started on December 10th, 1924 led by Henry Gerber the grandfather of the Gay Rights Movements. The LGBTQQ Rights Movement still continues on today in the USA and other countries around the world. This society is a group of people that believe that they as people in the LGBTQQ community should have the same rights as everyday people like me and you. LGBTQQ people have been fighting to be equal in the community so that they aren’t discriminated at their jobs or in their communities. The LGBTQQ community has faced many forms of discrimination such as unequal treatment at work and unfair treatment within the community.

In the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson wrote “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men a created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuits of Happiness” (Jefferson). Everyone has the same rights as others, but the problem in this century is the lesbian, gay bisexual, transgender community (LGBT) does not have the equal rights as “straight” citizens do. Reasons why they may not have these equal rights is because of the government may be embarrassed to give these people their rights to be equal cause the government will lose the respect and strength of the other countries and theirs. The overall experience of the LGBTQ community in America has been a horrific experience for the past 300 plus years. Individuals who share same sex interest were oppressed, discriminated, brutalized, experimented on, and killed due to their alternative lifestyle(s). Elze (2006) confirms these allegations by mentioning... “Since colonial times… people who love and sexually desire those of the same sex, have been imprisoned, executed, witch hunted, pilloried, confined in asylums, fired, excommunicated, disinherited, evicted, extorted, entrapped, censored, declared mentally ill, drugged, and subjected to castration, hormone injections, clitoridectomy, hysterectomy, ovariectomy, lobotomy, psychanalysis, and aversive therapies” (p.43).

The Charter of Rights and Freedoms has allowed a rapid advancement of the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Canadians hereafter referred to as the queer community. The Charter’s guarantee of equality for all inspired a rights- based approach to queer rights that led to the queer community being granted the same rights as heterosexual men and women ultimately culminating in the legalization of same- sex marriages. This advancement in rights has primarily proceeded through the Courts as they proved much more willing to recognize the rights of the queer community than the government of Canada. This recognition of the equality of queer Canadians was made possible by the Charter accelerating a pre-existing process of separation

LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Transsexual) youth homelessness makes up only 5 to 7 percent of the general youth population, yet up to 40 percent of youth experiencing homelessness. Many LGBTQ youth face harassment, victimization, violence, social stigma, rejection, and discrimination in their families, schools, employment, and social settings. LGBTQ identified youth ages 13 to 17, provides important information regarding how LGBTQ young people experience life in their communities. Nearly half of LGBTQ youth (47 percent) surveyed they do not “fit in” in their community, while only 16 percent of non LGBTQ youth reported feeling that way. 63 percent stated that they will need to move to another part of the country in order to feel accepted.

There is discrimination in this world to this day, there is discriminations against “people who are gay”. This discrimination is just like the Holocaust, because the Germans didn’t like the jews. I believe the gay marriage should have been approved long before it was. People need to realize judging someone because they are gay is wrong, that person is obviously an idiot. It is not up to people to judge other people because they are gay.

Transgender students are denied the right to feel comfortable and included while others enjoy that right. There may be many more students that enjoy this right than are denied it, but under the 14 amendment, the government cannot “deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws,” not even the minority. Gay rights has been a long protested issue by both sides, for it and against it. One of the most famous groups that go against is the Westboro Baptist Church, who have many protests against the LGBTQ+ community as well as other things, but that is besides the point. They are not the only people that do this as well, some do it presentations in school, some do it on online posts or videos. There are many ways you can show your voice now and protest, though many people, like WBC do still picket with signs and screaming and hate. Each side of this movement has their own protests and riots, a well known riot in the 60’s was the Stonewall Riots.

Anyone who is an American citizen knows that with citizenship comes many perks, responsibilities, and rights. Citizens also believe that if they abide by the law, pay their taxes, and positively serve their community they have earned the rights that they know they have as an American. Unfortunately, not every American citizen is given equal rights to the fullest extent. Gay and lesbian families are constantly being denied rights that a typical American citizen wouldn’t think twice about. Law abiding gay and lesbian citizens have a disadvantage from other people, not because they are breaking laws or doing anything wrong but because unaffected parties don’t accept their sexual orientation and cause problems.

Everyone should be able to receive the same benefits and acceptance regardless of their sexuality so granting legal marriage rights under the law must extend to gays and lesbians to ensure that all citizens enjoy full human

To most ears, it probably sounds inoffensive. A little outdated and clinical, perhaps, but harmless enough: homosexual. But that five-syllable word has never been more loaded, more deliberately used and, to the ears of many gays and lesbians, more permissiveness. Homosexual’ is the ring of ‘colored’ now, in the way your grandmother might have used that term, except that it hasn’t been recover in the same way. Consider the following phrases: homosexual community, homosexual activist, homosexual marriage.

EQUALITY FOR LESBIAN, GAY, 3 Equality for LGBT Lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, and queer community needs equality because they are humans, they need love and care, and they should be respected by everyone. This community is also known as LGBT or LGBTQ community. LGBTQ community is a group of people who are lesbians, gays, bisexual, transgender, and queer. This group of people is also known as homosexuals. This people experienced harassment, discrimination, and threat of violence because of their sexual orientation.

Love conquers all. Would not love overcome social stigmas put upon two people wanting to raise a family? A spotlighted topic today is the debate of homosexual couples, should they or should they not be allowed to adopt? I firmly believe gay couples should have the rights of any other couples wanting to adopt. Recently the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage.

They should be able to have a life without fear. Living in fear is not living at all that’s why some gay people prefer not to come out from the closet. What do they mean by coming out from the closet? Gay people normally come out because they do not want to hide their sexual orientation anymore. They want to be honest to those people they care and trust about their sexual orientation, about who they are.
